I knew a colleague who travelled to Las Vegas once for work related task. The only impression the city had made on him was that it "has a lot of light bulbs"
And he requested from the airline an earlier departure date. It was approved.

A non competitive Vegas team is a scary prospect. With the arrival of the NFL next season , there is another new shiny toy in the neighbourhood. It wouldn’t take much for the Knights to become irrelevant.

Yeah --this is so very true, and it's also hard to sell ice cream when it's really cold outside, and of course hard to sell Hockey, when it's blazing hot outside. The Vegas area is really hot, and I think they will have a hard time keeping up their fan base, once the novelty wears off.

Florida Panthers, Dallas and Carolina have to be great examples of this. If it wasn't for the rising costs of the franchises, the owners would have cut their losses and bolted a long time ago.

Fun guy to work with, was he?

I have a few colleagues that I imagine having similar responses. I did once have someone explain to me that Rome was "too old, too noisy, and there's nowhere to eat." I made no reply but we did think of him next time we were in Rome. Good example of someone being a tiny bit right, and enormously wrong all at once.

Last time I was in Vegas --a long time ago, I stayed at a place called the Marina Hotel ( smaller one - but newer) or the Marino Hotel ?? I'm not sure if it still there, as it was a smaller one on the main strip.

The Marina was sold and mostly torn down, then rebuilt as the MGM Grand.

Thanks for that --and it doesn't surprise me, as it was a great location, but not a big enough hotel for that spot. The MGM Grand picked a nice location IMO.

I'm not claiming to be an expert on the local Las Vegas culture - I only go there once every couple of years to sip Mai Tais by the poolside, have a couple of nice steaks and otherwise set my wallet on fire - but I think the Golden Knights have provided something for the locals to adopt and rally around. I don't believe they'll slip into irrelevance just because the Raiders move to town for 9 games a year, or because they don't make the Cup Finals every season.

And that city is a magnet for NHL players - no tax, nice climate, reasonable cost of living, endless entertainment options, exotic cacti, and plentiful, clean hydroelectricity from the Hoover Dam - Seventh Wonder of the Industrial World! Anyway, if management plays its cards right they should be able to put together a pretty good succession of at least playoff-quality teams for the foreseeable future.

If you stay there now you will be right be across the strip from New York New York and the arena is right behind New York New York.

It all depends on whether they stay competitive enough. Don’t underestimate the pull of football in the US and if the NBA follows, it’s more of a distraction and competition for fans. I didn’t say they had to reach the cup finals every year but a couple of years missing the playoffs in a very non-traditional hockey market, we’ll we’ve seen that story before. If they consistently make the playoffs, they’ll stay relevant but in the cap world there are going to be natural ebbs and flows. Let’s see how well they survive an ebb.

Anyone else to the Golden Knights game tomorrow? I’ll be in section 222 come have a beer with the Baron by where the players wives sneak on down stairs! Hehe

I enjoy Vegas from a far from such classic films as “Casino” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”.

Now “WE MUST HAVE A SUITE!!”- Duke

Vegas is amazing the first time.

oh yeah ***** Vegas
Been to Vegas twice. Once as a kid. Stayed at the Motel 6. I kid you not.

Second time I was at a conference so was over at the Hilton that had the Star Trek Experience in it. It was off the strip but we wandered over. That was my introduction to 7 of 9 so I remember Vegas fondly.

**** Vegas.
