________________________________________________A non competitive Vegas team is a scary prospect. With the arrival of the NFL next season , there is another new shiny toy in the neighbourhood. It wouldn’t take much for the Knights to become irrelevant.
I knew a colleague who travelled to Las Vegas once for work related task. The only impression the city had made on him was that it "has a lot of light bulbs"
And he requested from the airline an earlier departure date. It was approved.

The Marina was sold and mostly torn down, then rebuilt as the MGM Grand._________________________________________________
Last time I was in Vegas --a long time ago, I stayed at a place called the Marina Hotel ( smaller one - but newer) or the Marino Hotel ?? I'm not sure if it still there, as it was a smaller one on the main strip.
Actually, the lower portion of the western tower of the MGM Grand (closest the Strip, to which the height of the new towers is stepped down) is the old Marina. They did tear down most of the public area. The Marina was sold and mostly torn down, then rebuilt as the MGM Grand.

I'm not claiming to be an expert on the local Las Vegas culture - I only go there once every couple of years to sip Mai Tais by the poolside, have a couple of nice steaks and otherwise set my wallet on fire - but I think the Golden Knights have provided something for the locals to adopt and rally around. I don't believe they'll slip into irrelevance just because the Raiders move to town for 9 games a year, or because they don't make the Cup Finals every season.A non competitive Vegas team is a scary prospect. You getting a new mortgage?I’m just gonna leave this here: Ryan Reaves

Thanks for that --and it doesn't surprise me, as it was a great location, but not a big enough hotel for that spot. The MGM Grand picked a nice location IMO.
It all depends on whether they stay competitive enough. Don’t underestimate the pull of football in the US and if the NBA follows, it’s more of a distraction and competition for fans. I didn’t say they had to reach the cup finals every year but a couple of years missing the playoffs in a very non-traditional hockey market, we’ll we’ve seen that story before. If they consistently make the playoffs, they’ll stay relevant but in the cap world there are going to be natural ebbs and flows. Let’s see how well they survive an ebb.I'm not claiming to be an expert on the local Las Vegas culture - I only go there once every couple of years to sip Mai Tais by the poolside, have a couple of nice steaks and otherwise set my wallet on fire - but I think the Golden Knights have provided something for the locals to adopt and rally around. And that city is a magnet for NHL players - no tax, nice climate, reasonable cost of living, endless entertainment options, exotic cacti, and plentiful, clean hydroelectricity from the Hoover Dam - Seventh Wonder of the Industrial World! Anyway, if management plays its cards right they should be able to put together a pretty good succession of at least playoff-quality teams for the foreseeable future.
Monotonously: Not so fast slick Rick. You getting a new mortgage?
