Curious what it would take to get Alex formenton out of Ottawa?

Pieces I could see Vancouver offering would be virtanen, demko, or gaudette. Something using these player as a basis?

I think formenton could be a strong piece to start building a scoring third line that is still strong defensively. Add in podkolzin at the end of the year and that's something to work with!

Pretty much exactly what you have been told already in this thread, Nucks would probably have to overpay a good amount

I would love Formenton, but I would not love the price we'd have to pay.

Pod+ would be my guess, and probably a heavy + too.

pass, him Norris and Batherson are off the table. We fans have been watching them in the ahl all season and cant wait to see them graduate.

I agree that Norris and Batherson are off the table but not so sure about Formenton. He has tons of speed but I am not convinced he will be a top six guy in the NHL.

Trust me, he sucks big time, you don't need him.

Seriously, he will only be traded if he's traded for a better player.

Formenton a big part of the identity the team needs to build around. Big, fast, physical, pest that can score. I wouldnt move him without massive overpayment.

His trajectory has been directly up, he is making moves at high speed and finally getting pp time. He is only 20 still hasnt turned 21 yet. The upside is certainly there.

During a rebuild there is no reason to trade a player like him. As for the sens making a move for Demko i think he is a good target but there is no reason to do it right now. The sens have two goalies on one ways and they need to see what they have in Hogberg. Before expansion goalies will be had for cheap thats the time to get one if Hogberg doesnt look like the answer.

That's way too high of a price for Formenton, Pod is a former 10th OA doing alright.

Don't get me wrong love Formenton and what he brings but his value is not much more than a late 1st, but there is no point to make a lateral move if we trade him he's everything you want out of a player and hopefully can be a better version of Grabner.

What's nice about Formenton is that I think he has a career due to his skillset regardless of whether he's top six material or not.

Any team can use a speedster with grit to PK, forecheck and draw penalties even if the offence doesn't translate.

I'm not sure why Ottawa would trade someone like that.

His value is way higher than a late first, it has been since his D + 1 his progression has been incredible. He was the youngest player in his draft. He plays with a physical edge that Grabner does not, he has the potential to be a real game changer. He will make room for his linemates not only with his speed but his abrasive physical play. I think alot of sens fans really dont know what they have in this player. He is right there with Norris and Batherson as he brings alot more than offense, he is the type of player you want in the playoffs.

Ottawa would be insane to trade one of their top prospects during a rebuild for a guy like Virtanen.

I overshot then. What would it take? Because I was under the impression that a highly touted prospect, with a good overall skillset, who had a great D+1, would be costing a pretty penny, but if Pod is still well enough regarded to be worth more then Formenton, I all the sudden have more interest.

18 goals and 36 points virtanen. Don't get me wrong I know he has work to do and he isn't a perfect player but he has been able to score at the NHL level. And I would expect there would be an add on from Vancouver along with these guys.

I was targeting formenton because he sounds like he would be ideal in a checking roll even if his offense doesn't pan out at the NHL level

The only way he would ever get traded would be in a package for someone they absolutely love, and I doubt Vancouver is willing to trade anyone on their roster that meets that criteria.

I personally would do Formenton + 2nd + Hawryluk. I don’t know how Canucks fans feel about that.

I love me some forms but Pod would look great in our top 6.

But we drafted forms so kinda wanna see what he turns into. Can see him as a 20 goal scoring PK specialist that is he’ll to play against. But Pod has more upside imo

Expansion draft. There's your 0 sense argument gone out the window. Asset management for Vancouver would be to sign Markstrom then make a decision on which goalie to trade after next season.

Agreed on Demko and I hope I am wrong about Formenton.

It makes zero sense to trade the 24 year old goalie that is going to be elite.
If Marky is resigned, then trading Demko (now) as sweetener to dump Loui would be a great deal for Vancouver. Then add Virtanen to dump Sutter. Benning needs to clear cap space.

Did you read my post?
Lol you think I haven’t thought this out already? There is no scenario where trading Demko makes sense. If we sign Markstrom it will be without an NMC and if anyone is gettinf traded, it will be him or else he will be exposed in the expansion draft. And if he doesn’t agree to that, then he leaves as a ufa. And we suddenly have enough cap space to bring back Tanev and Toffoli.

I had in mind formenton and podkolzin starting out on the Canucks third line together. I'd keep podkolzin because he does add a lot of grit, size, and two way play which is what the Canucks need more of. What kind of value do sens fans place in formenton? If it was someone like gaudette/virtanen/demko+ picks what would it look like?
