Rather take this risk than giving a goalie like carey price 10.5 mill per till hes in his 40s. This was a no brainer and the sample size is enough imo

1. Scroll up.
2. Read what I wrote carefully
3. Get back to me

You posted this>>>>> Did he have a 48-save shutout?

Nothing to misunderstand there. Nothing to read carefully. You are talking about him winning 1 playoff game, which means nothing. It proves nothing. You also said earlier in the thread that it proved he can win in the playoffs. Lots of goalies won a game or two here or there in the playoffs and were nothing special.

1. Make a list of goalies who have had 48-save shutouts in the playoffs.
2. Get back to me

1. The other 4 goalies who've saved 48 or more shots in a playoff shutout (shot data available back to 1979):
  • Craig Anderson (51 saves across 60:51 on 4/18/2010 vs. San Jose)
  • Ed Belfour (48 saves across 106:21 in Game 5 of the 2000 Stanley Cup Finals vs. New Jersey)
  • Patrick Roy (63 saves across 104:31 in Game 4 of the 1996 Stanley Cup Finals vs. Florida; John Vanbiesbrouck had 55 saves for Florida before giving up Uwe Krupp's Cup-winning goal)
  • Dominik Hasek (70 saves across 125:43 vs. New Jersey, 4/27/94; Martin Brodeur had 49 saves before allowing Dave Hannan's GWG at 5:43 of the 4th OT)
Norm Smith made at least 89 or 90 saves in the 6OT win vs. Montreal Maroons on 3/24/36. Lorne Chabot saved 66 shots before the GWG. The Toronto/Boston game on 4/3/33 that went 6OT likely saw both goalies make at least 48 saves. Other candidates here include Montreal vs. Detroit (3/29/51; 3OT) along with 6 other playoff games from the 30s that went 2OT.

So, you're point here is ... it's an exceedingly rare occurrence? Demko is more Roy, Belfour and Hasek and less Smith and Anderson? Demko is the only one to do it in regulation? Brian Boucher had a 332 minute scoreless streak on top of taking the Flyers to Game 7 of the ECF as a rookie, and by 2006 no one was pointing to both of those as some sign of his talent and future greatness. Why should one (1) 48-save shutout in the playoffs garner so much attention that it elevates a guy to nearly HF demi-god status?

2. You don't have to get back to me.

Who cares! Your argument was that he has proven to be a winner at playoff time. Winning one game, regardless the save total means nothing, as far as proving you are a playoff winner.

1. Check how many playoff games he won

That’s like giving Michael Hutchinson a $5M AAV long-term contract after his 2014/15 season, where he played 38 games, 2.38 GAA, .914.

This is a pretty crazy contract based on a limited sample size.

Ah yes, I remember all the Cups the Wings won with Tim Cheveldae, Manny Legace and Jimmy Howard, cause they too proved they can win in the playoffs seeing as they have WINS!
