You'll love his hustle and compete level but he has trouble staying healthy, pretty decent speed as well.
Zadorov nearly killed him.

Had decent hopes for him to be a 3rd line PK guy, capable of 10-12 goals and 30ish points.
He will need to continue to work on things to ever chase down that expectation.

Needs to be disciplined and work to his strengths of being a good forechecker and just general pest to play against.
Still young enough to turn it around.

Yep: although his death by Zadorov inspired Huberdeau to eviscerate the Avs in compensation

In Ottawa he was pretty damn good for the role that he had and was always involved in the play. He works hard and has some decent vision to be honest, he can make a pass and can put a puck in the net. He goes to the dirty areas and will battle for pucks. I know a lot of us wished we had kept him especially on that type of contract but we also have a bunch of younger guys pushing for spots so that's probably why they didn't keep him since he did look good in his limited time here.

If he keeps at it I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up a good 3rd liner.

I don't think its about learning, its more likely the team is in a different position than it was 3 years ago.

We were never a team that should be spending as much as we did on the likes of Rousell, Beagle and Sutter. Veteran leadership doesn't up their value by an extra million or two. At this point, Benning has been forced to learn from his incompetency because the flat cap nearly screwed him over. He basically lucked into Schmidt.

Good little player. If he was a bit bigger, a bit stronger, a bit faster, or a bit more skilled, he would almost certainly be an everyday NHLer, and maybe even an above-average one. As it stands, he will need to bring more if he wants to be a regular on a good team but he can definitely fill in with some degree of versatility.

Decent signing, but premature to say that Benning has learned his lesson, the UFA market is deflated and has has no cap room so even if he wanted to hand out more Beagle contracts, he couldn’t.

I was hoping the Canucks would have gotten his guy in one of the many variations of the Eriksson->Ottawa deal.
