Another example of why you have to let players have a chance in the NHL. Darryl even said as much after about 3 games with Pelletier in the lineup.

The NHL is so much structured that hockey IQ is way more important than anything else. The AHL is so frantic.

Hopefully we actually start looking at players ability to help this team win **cough** Dustin Wolf **cough** and stop looking at the age of players. Or how much experience players who have never played in the NHL have.

He had two horrendous training camps after the achilles injury but more should have been done to groom him to take Hanifin's spot. Regardless, Kylington's absence makes the loss of Valimaki noticeable in the first place

Valimaki, Bennett and our 2025 first round pick should still be with this organization. We got rid of them for one injury filled season of Monohan, Kadri and probably Zadorov.

Bennett was never going to succeed here, he needed the change of scenery as much as any player to get his confidence back up.

Bennett and Valimaki both had the wrong coaches for them to succeed here. Bennett would be perfect for Sutter and Valimaki wasn't going to be able to grow properly with him. They both needed the coaches the other one got.

Meh, the Valimaki story in Calgary was just bad luck and bad timing. The two successive leg injuries he suffered wrecked his speed, which lowered his confidence, which in turn, wrecked his decision making. So by the time Sutter came along, all he saw was a slow defenceman who made bad decisions and yet still felt entitled to playing time. So of course he didn't play him, especially since there were a multitude of better options when everyone was healthy.

The only way Valimaki would have succeeded in Calgary after his injuries was if the Flames had chosen to rebuild after Gaudreau & Tkachuk left. And subsequently fired Sutter, not signed Zadorov, and hired someone else who could then give Valimaki all the consequence free ice time he needed to get his game back on track. In other words, it was never ever going to happen with so long as Murray Edwards is the owner.

Guy was spouting to the media that valiamki wasn’t an nhler. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy and turned out to be a load of bullshit once he was separated from this cancerous coach.
He's still a healthy scratch on maybe the worst blueline ever assembled in the NHL.

Pretty sure he’s injured. Didn’t he have some facial injury in December and then took a cheap hit to the head from Cousins.
Healthy scratched a ton of times. He did get hurt in December, but has been a healthy scratch for multiple games now.

Yikes. I really wish he was as durable as a Nokia phone vs how brittle he has become. :(

Unfortunately, Darryl had already destroyed his career. The damage was done. He had what, three-four full 82 game seasons as a young stud defenceman when Darryl decided he wasn't NHL material and ruined his career?

He earns the proud distinction of being one of the only 2 Dman to play worse sutter (along with mackey). Thats on him, he legitimately looked awful when he did play. Mackey shouldve clearly been the one to go on waivers but gilbert and desimone were better than valimaki the last 2 yrs for us.

Still not over Valimaki busting. He should have been the one who pushed Hanifin out for forward help
