Hmmm when's deadline? Are there typically not many trades at deadline?

It's thursday. And not much happens simply because the myriad of cap rules make trades a little trickier, coupled with the fact that historically it's just never been as crazy as the NHL deadline.

The NHL deadline is a special beast. Whether simply because shuffling roster pieces is a more time-worn strategy in the NHL or because the media at large makes a gigantic deal out of the NHL deadline compared to other sports' cutoff, you just don't see the same flurry of activity in basketball (or football, or even baseball) that you get in hockey. Teams are more likely to make deals beforehand if they're really set on doing something.

NFL is a little more understandable simply because it would be incredibly difficult for an incoming player to absorb the relevant playbook within such a short time in order to be useful. MLB and NBA, I dunno. It just seems like it's just not their thing.

Maybe just me but I'd give up Ross for Garnett in a heartbeat. I just think he's not a fit here, and until he gets a chance to to play more minutes on another team it just won't work here. Garnett would give us a good vet shot blocker/rim protector in the playoffs.

In your nightmares
NEVER would I consider moving a young asset like Ross for an old vet like Garnett who's most likely done after next year... horrible asset management.

Yes its just you. You dont trade a young player even a struggling one for someone who is basically on the verge of retirement. KG would help for what maybe a year or 2?
I am perfectly fine with adding him for veteran leaderehip and depth but at the expense of our assets, not a chance.
That type of thinking will lead us back to where we started

That fit issue doesnt matter here. Trading a youngster for an oldie. It sounds stupid all around
Lets say you trade Ross for KG, KG helps us in the playoffs for a year and than hangs up the laces and Ross turns into a great bench player than what?
I understand trading Ross but for a guy who is almost done? Sounds bad all around

If your trading Ross go after David West or Taj Gibson you know guys that will help us for a few years

David West is 34.

Btw I'm not saying we shouldn't do it but how do people expect the minutes for our bigs to shake up if we were to bring in say Taj Gibson? Handsbro's minutes first of all. Jonas probably gets even less playing time, and then Amir gets relegated to the bench?

Sorry I think I was mistaking West for someone else
Second point I get what your saying. I was just arguing the notion of trading for a guy for one year using a young asset which isnt right

Yes Gibson limits the minutes of others but as I was saying the only way we should be using Ross as trade bait would be for someone who can help is long term so I brought up Gibson as an example.
As much as I love Amir, I think on a great team he is perfect coming off the bench though as a starter I have been very happy with his play. Our best post defender if you ask me

The MLB trade deadline itself can't even be fully explained within one sentence, so there's that

Also, the NBA season has about 30 games left, whereas the NHL TDL will be at the point where teams have just over 20 games left. There are many teams in the NBA's East that are still well in the hunt (excluding every other team in the Atlantic division).

You're just not trading a youngster for an oldie, whether it's Garnett or Gibson or West, you're looking at the present. For years in this city we're always looking at certain rebuilds whether it's the Leafs or the Raptors in previous years, the Jays etc...for once it would be nice to see a team in this city go for it. Ross to me will be a super bench player. He's not a starter here. I'd rather move the asset and try and improve to win now. Yeah is there a possibility that Ross becomes something sure but that's the risk of the whole thing. You have to take chances sometimes. Yeah Garnett may not be the best fit but for Gibson/West etc then the Raptors would be stupid not to consider it. And reading and hearing rumours they are looking to move Ross to improve the team. Even they know it may be time to cash in this asset.

The team is good but not great. And adding KG wont turn them into great
I still maintain we take a patient approach with this team

Why does anyone want Garnett? he's not even a better overall player than Hansbrough at this point not to mention you can't even count on him to play regularly because of his age. I wouldn't even take him for free at that salary and with his annoying attitude much less for Ross...

Can someone break down how that Denver Knicks pick works in 2016? Basically do we just get the worse pick between the two?

If so they both look like they will be bottom feeders so we could be looking at a lottery pick.

I believe we get the lesser of the two picks
