Pronger.

Aside from all the QO's accepted in the last week, the Blues also re-signed Chris Pronger (2 years x $6 million) and Daniel Alfredsson (4 years x $5.9 million).

Great signing for Pronger at $6mil. Nice hometown discount. Lowers the bar for other signings that will hopefully help control salaries a little more.

It's the same as always - if you have had a player for over 5 years, you can get a discount on their NHL deal.

And in this case, it's actually a smaller discount than the rules account for. Pronger makes $6.25M in the NHL, and given he has been with the Blues for 10 years, getting only a $250k discount is hardly "lowering the bar", but I paid more for the 1 extra year, otherwise I could have auto-signed him for 1 year x $5.6 million ($6.25 x 90%). (I actually tried for a 4 year deal for a higher salary, but the offer was turned down).

But if your player gets signed to a stupid NHL deal, you're still stuck with that as a comparable - it's the only way for the agents to be fair.

Qualifying offers for the Ducks...most of these players still have outstanding offers that I'm waiting to hear back on:

Matt Hunwick, 23 RFA
HFNHL current contract: $875,000
HFNHL QO: $962,500
NHL cap: N/A (RFA - $775,000 last salary)

Sean Sullivan, 24 RFA
HFNHL current contract: $750,000
HFNHL QO: $825,000
NHL cap: $645,000

Ben Lovejoy, 24 RFA
HFNHL current contract: $450,000
HFNHL QO: $495,000
NHL cap: N/A (RFA - $637,500 last salary)

Dennis Seidenberg, 27 RFA (age incorrectly listed as 25 on player vitals)
HFNHL current contract: $700,000
HFNHL QO: $770,000
NHL cap: N/A (UFA - $1.2M last salary)

Yann Danis, 27 RFA
HFNHL current contract: $816,700
HFNHL QO: $898,370
NHL cap: N/A (UFA - $550,000 last salary)

That should leave Ryan Pottruff and Scott Munroe as the only Ducks RFAs that will not be receiving qualifying offers. Todd Fedoruk, Tom Kostopoulos, and Darcy Hordichuk are all slated to become UFAs, however we do have offers in to all three, as well as all of the above RFAs that have been tendered QOs (with the exception of Sullivan).

Agree. Provides others with negotiating power when they're trying to do a long deal. I think the agents have been tough but fair in what I see throughout the contracts that are being signed. The move to allowing teams to sign players at their NHL contract levels helps GM's further control their salary structures.

well i got a good return for this specific guy, so it all worked out in the end, but i offered a contract 110% over what his NHL salary is and got turned down.. if it was someone i had on my team for a while i would be pretty frustrated, but it was a trade/(attempted)sign kind of deal, but i hope agents keep an eye out for stuff like that in the future.

Perhaps the player was making more than his NHL salary and you asked for a pay cut...we hardly accept a pay cut if we feel that player could be offered a better contract as a free agent

A couple errors with NY Rangers info...

Jaroslav Spacek was re-signed to a 2 year x $4.25M deal.
Mike Kostka's salary is incorrect. Should be 450k, not 875k.

Other than that, looks good.

QO's were submitted via email for the following:
P-M Bouchard
Jim Slater
Derek Meech
Mark Letestu

The following were not offered QO's:
Miika Wiikman
Patrick Coloumbe
Gabe Gauthier
TJ Trevelyan
TJ Fox

Hey,

Nice work on the spreadsheets that is amazing. The following players are not updated on the spreadsheet and were signed earlier.

Jaime Lundmark 1 year 1,200,000
Aaron Voros 2 years 1,000,000
Matt Jones 2 years 750,000
Ville Leino 3 years 1,500,000
Devan Dubnyk 3 years 1,000,000

I also activated these three players to contracts.
Steven Stamkos 3 years 875,000
Jakub Voracek 3 years 875,000
Drew Doughty 3 years 875,000

Also Tim Jackman should have one more year on his contract so he shouldn't be a free agent.

Thanks,
Ryan

Fair enough, I was confused becasue it sounded like the last year we were accepting the NHL terms, it would have been a minor paycut for this player but it was over his NHL terms so i thought that would have meant a nearly automatic signing, but that makes sense.. Loyalty wasn't a factor and he was making more than he was in the NHL.

Financial update before free agency starts, Matt K?

Um good question. I've just got to England for a week off. That should allow me some time to get back to testing the new sim software.

I guess it is possible but my main objection would be having to repeat doing it twice, once in the old sim, and then again in the new sim (because I can't remember if salaries are part of the importable info from FHL....)

Anyway.. rambling. Jet Lag.

I'm confused by something. NHL salaries go down but HFNHL salaries can't go down?

HFNHL salaries are based on what GM are willing to pay. I believe salaries could go down once HFNHL GM learns to let go some of their high demand players.
