Speculation: Upcoming Roster Moves

The Oilers are expected to activate Horcoff today (sunday) at that point the roster is full. Meanwhile Harti, Fistric, and Lander are all still on IR. if we assume Lander gets assigned to OKC; we will have fistric and harti and zero roster spots.
So simply who goes where?

The way i see it: to add fistric to the roster we simply trade whitney or waive potter/peckham we don't need 8 dmen. Adding harti to the roster is more trickey, the only guy i see going is petrell but i like petrell and don't want to lose him, but who else from the bottom 6 could go some of you may say smyth but we know that ain't happening. Brown eager jones mps/yakupov smyth belandger horc round out the bottom six so waive petrell add harti.

What do you guys think?

I'm writing this at 7 am and i have not slept yet because i'm stupid, so if something doesn't make sense its because i'm barely awake :lol:

Harti should be sent down. He struggled before his injury and could probably benfit from one last spell in OKC.

Do believe there's going to be some trades as well. I think they'll shop guys like Whitney, Belanger etc to play off teams, likely getting midround picks back. Maybe Petrell holds some value as a PK specialist to a team heading to the playoffs as well.

I'm crossing my fingers that we waive Smyth, but judging by Krueger's recent decisions, he'll send down Paajarvi.

I know there are issues with waiver eligibilty and stuff like that, but sending down Paajarvi should not be an option. He has been one of the only good forwards and finally looks like he's confident in himself as a full time NHLer.

In fact, I'd say that Paajarvi is one of the only positives of this dumpster fire of a year so far.

Sending him down right now would look really, really bad. It would make a Mickey Mouse franchise look even more foolish.

Risk losing Potter or someone else on waivers. Or trade him for a late pick or marginal prospect or something.

I will be pretty pissed if Paajarvi is sent down. Smyth literally has no place on this team now with Brown. He's having to play a position that he has never played and he's not playing well. :laugh:

Please get rid of Smyth.

Probably will be Harti though.

EDIT - We have 8 defenseman also. Would be wonderful if Potter and Smyth somehow were the one's to leave.

I don't see us trading or waiving smyth. At all, even though i wouldn't mind
I'm still thinking petrell will go, i'd rather petrell over harti and certainly not mps
And yeah potter or maybe it should be peckham or perhaps the best option would be trading whitney now for a 3rd

@dantencer: Mark Fistric flew back to re-join the team yesterday. I'm guessing good chance he plays tomorrow. Will need a roster move to make room...

with Eager Jones and Belanger all not in the line up last night they are all attractive pieces for a trade,

eager, jones belly and 4th for shea weber?

I think Paajarvi is getting close to having to clear waivers if they were to send him down. He has played 141 games in the NHL and I think after 160 he could be claimed by another team if being sent down.

I sure hope the Oilers don't send him down, even though he isn't at the 160 games yet; he deserves to be up here, one of the few bright spots so far this year. Magnus is playing his way into the lineup on a nightly basis while plenty of others are making a case that they deserve a seat in the press box.

Whitney is playing better, plus I suspect they are trying to trade him so he needs some icetime.

Potter lead the team in ice yesterday I think?

Fistric will probably be scratched anyway.

Harski should be sent down, and this logjam at d needs to be sorted out ASAP.

It's good to have defensive depth, but having 3 #8 guys fighting for a #6 spot, is not real depth

I fully expect this to happen and it's absolutely brutal. Just when it looks like we can roll three good forward lines, we'll be forced to insert Anchor Smyth onto the Eberle-RNH line.

Jones/Barkov/Mackinnon here we come.

Whitney has played well recently...we should take advantage of that and trade him if we get an even half decent offer.

If Whitney and Hemsky are still on the roster next month Tambellini will have failed us horribly. Sell, Sell, Sell.
