Mikael Backlund never gets mentioned in Selke discussions despite being the match-up center and best defensive forward on the 2nd best team in the league this season (and possibly the best in his division as well).

Kovalchuk, you would think he was ECHL bound by reading hfboards. Easily the Kings best forward in the first half of the season then was in Willies dog house for what ever reason the later half which ruined his confidence. Overpaid by a million or 2, yes. Lucic levels of bad, um no.

Brian Boyle in 2010-11 is the only one that comes to mind

Hertl's 74 points in 77 games stood out to me as surprising. His previous high point total was only 46.

Sure, but I don't think anyone expected him to be a top 3 goal scorer in the league. He'd never hit 40 before this year.
