Bemidji cane into the Ralph last night and took down the boys 4-3. Let’s face it. It will take some time to gel with all these new faces. Hopefully sooner than later obviously and losing Weatherby hurt too. Just gonna take a little time folks

UND got taken behind the woodshed last night by Quinnipiac 5-2. Haven’t seen a UND team get schooled like that in quite sometime. Quinnipiac is a veteran team and well coached. They could very well be at the Frozen Four

And they comeback and win tonight 3-1. Old time Sioux hockey. They got in their face and were physical from the drop of the puck. I now feel better about my trip to Nashville this next week

Looking Ahead

North Dakota vs. Penn State
(Sat., 7 p.m., U.S. Hockey HOF Game)

These teams will finally meet in Nashville this week after a two-year wait. As noted on our CHN Insiders Podcast this week, our own Adam Wodon will also be in attendance!

This is the biggest test of the season for Penn State, which is 5-1 in games against LIU, Canisius, and Niagara (all at home). Not only will this be Penn State's first game away from Pegula Ice Rink (albeit not a true road game), but it will be against its toughest opponent to date.

North Dakota is looking to get back on track after a pair of 1-1 weekends against Bemidji State and Quinnipiac.

“You’re in a NHL city and NHL market with media. You’re playing against a really good program in Penn State,” UND head coach Brad Berry said. “It’s a situation where there’s going to be a lot of people and personnel wise. The NHL watching their prospects play. The light is on us and Nashville as far as that one game. I think it’s a situation where that’s what we do here every single day when we come into the Ralph or when we go on the road.” ...

Roundup: Penn State Spoils North Dakota's Nashville Party

by Adam Wodon/Managing Editor

NASHVILLE — You ask most college hockey fans which new destination they'd love to see get a Frozen Four, and Nashville is inevitably the first choice.

Well, it wasn't a Frozen Four, and the weekend was mostly enjoyed only by North Dakota fans, but Nashville did get a taste of high-end college hockey. It was Penn State, however, which spoiled the party for the 15,000 or so North Dakotans that made the trip.

The Nittany Lions scored three power-play goals to defeat North Dakota, 6-4. Both teams had moments of sloppy play and bad penalties, but it was Penn State's strong start that carried the way. Penn State came out with a lot of jump and took a 2-0 lead, then held off each North Dakota charge, as it improved to 6-1 on the season.

North Dakota dropped to 4-3, and continued what's been a season of frustration so far. The Fighting Hawks knew this year might be a step back from the highs of the last two seasons, given all the losses to graduation and the pros they had, but sloppiness from the veterans who should know better, has been an ongoing concern. ...

UND comes away with a 3-1 win over Denver last night but it was anything but pretty. They were scrambling the entire third period and Driscoll stole one in net. Team is still finding its identity but a win is a win

Hopefully after this weekend they are still on top but with UMD coming to the Ralph this coming weekend it won’t be easy. Fanti is on a 3 game shutout streak. That needs to end obviously. I’ll take a split but would love a UND sweep

If there ever was a gut check win it was last night. Sioux got taken behind the woodshed Friday night 4-1 and looked awful. Last night totally different game winning 2-1. UMD and UND are now 1 and 2 in the pairwise. Oh and they played without Hobey candidate Sanderson for both games because of illness

Gophers are at the Ralph this weekend. Going to Saturday nights game. This to me is still the best rivalry in college hockey. They hate each other still despite being in different conferences. Throw out the records when these 2 play

That was as bad as it gets last night at the Ralph. Gophers were in control pretty much the entire game. Give them credit they came to play and the Sioux didn’t. 5-1 *** whooping

Grand Forks Herald/Yahoo!: UND turns impressive start into win over rival Minnesota

UND played as sharp (in their new NoDak jerseys) as it looked Saturday night, holding Minnesota to just six shots through 40 minutes, opening a three-goal lead and hanging on for a 3-2 victory in front of 11,617 fans in Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Captain Mark Senden scored two goals and tallied three points, while linemate Gavin Hain scored once and rookie Jake Schmaltz had two assists to help the Fighting Hawks grab a series split. ...
