Idk about that. Pittsburgh won 3 cups with Crosby-Malkin, Boston had Krejci-Bergeron, LA had Kopitar-Carter, etc. Chicago probably had the weakest centre depth of the cup winners in the 2010s, but they had an absolutely stacked defense and winger group to go with that. Calgary could follow that model, but generally speaking depth at centre matters.

Tampa had a 1-2-3 of Point-Cirelli-Gourde when they won the cup. Point>>Lindholm, Cirelli>=Backlund, Gourde>>>>>Monahan. Kucherov and Hedman also helped too...

I think the comparison you're supposed to make is STL. They were a jack of all trades looking group with a mastery of none which seems more on par on paper to the current Flames.

The most meh of elite centres in recent history (ROR 1C), but very good centres all the way from the first to the 4th line. Good wingers, no significant run away specials in elite wingers (ie: injured Tarasenko)? Good dmen all the way through to the 5/6... AP elite~ish. Binnington caught fire.

If you look at some of the SC finalists, their centre depth is often atrocious. This team is good enough to get there because the West is a mess.

Feel bad for Toronto who will have to play the reigning cup winners or the 2nd best team in the league in the first round. Actually I don't tbh

It’d be nitpicking to debate most of this with you, but “not a top 10 group of wingers” is downright false describing the Flames. We are easily top 3 in the league, and maybe the best group out there. Find another team with two wingers well over a point per game, another winger on pace for 40 goals, a 50-70 point guy in toffoli, then depth pieces like Coleman and Lucic. Dube is now our 7th best winger on this roster, and he’d be playing top 6 on a lot of teams.
