Rather be a realist than a pessimist. Had we gotten long-term solutions instead of rentals, there would be a lot more to be happy about.
Exactly who are we going to draft with those 2nds and 3rds that would amount to a "long term solution" NHL player? Even if we made home run selections with those picks those players would still need at the very least 3 years to develop and break into our lineup. If you take a look at the real data showing the odds of 2nd and 3rd round selections becoming full-time NHLers its extraordinarily low and they require lots of development.

The "longer term solutions" who are younger and have more term/RFA time left would have costed far more than what we would have been willing/able to pay. Id much rather have one and done quality depth rentals than empty the farm and all of our picks to get these expensive shiny toys you desire.
