First of I going to say this, Motte had his best game of the season today.Like, if you took the two players, swap teams, but have them perform the exact same as they have this season, then Motte would have less GA. I defy you to disagree with that statement given how wildly opposite the D-cores of Winnipeg and Vancouver are built.
Also, I defy you to watch video of every single goal against that Motte has been on the ice for and tell me he's the one costing this team. I suspect you'll find what I find -- his skillset makes him more indispensable than guys like Schaller, Granlund, Eriksson, Gaunce etc.
I wouldn't go that far when there have been Leipsic, Eriksson, Schaller and Granlund for forwards putting their name in the hat during all those games. Underwhelming absolutely, but worst player to me is a bit of a stretch. Let's not forget about the atrocious play of Gudbrandson, Pouliot and MDZ over that span as well.He was good the first 3-4 games, the worst player on the team for the next 20, and has been good again for the last 5 games.
it's a pretty small impact move and the draft picks at all cost Nancy's will just look at it as another failure.Thought Tyler Motte's play might deserve a discussion. Last trade deadline these Boards mostly had a 'two-thumbs down' consensus on trading Vanek to the Jackets and only getting Motte back.
But so far this year the guy has been a revelation. Blazing speed and a mainstay on the penalty kill. And Green has him out there in the last minute of most close games now. Last night made the key play along the all to get the puck to Virtanen for the winner.
And Motte is still only 23. Does this qualify as one of Jimbo's best deals to date?

Been a while since I was called a "Nancy boy" but coming from you, I take it as a sign of respect.it's a pretty small impact move and the draft picks at all cost Nancy's will just look at it as another failure.

I'm all for trying to get Motte as many ENGs as possible to see if we can dupe another team to giving up a pick for him at the deadline.

Never had a problem with this deal. He's been a nice find and is a good energy player tailor made for the modern game. a lot of people were wrong in assessing him...he has some utility
I think he’s a keeper; plays the role he’s given perfectly. Young, quick, cheap, tenacious and reliable.
Contending teams need guys like Motte in their bottom 6. He could become a Jannik Hansen type player for us if he continues to develop.
He seems to go through decent 4-5 game stretches of being a good checking player, this recent run has been one of those for him. But he vast majority of his play is just him hustling and skating hard, which can trick people into thinking he's better than he actually is.
Skating hard and hustling is great and all but at some point you have to ask what they're actually accomplishing, and in Motte's case, the answer is not much. While he's been OK on the penalty kill, he's been on the worst Canucks forwards at supressing goals at even strength and only has scored 1 goal on a goalie through 31 games.
He's a dime a dozen tweener, he should probably be in the AHL but this team's depth is so piss poor that after a couple bodies go down we're left with Motte playing 16+ minutes a game.
