...this question doesn’t help your case at all.

If we didn’t win everything, you were going to complain about Tuukka regardless. Your inability to come to terms with this just shows your lack of self awareness.
If we lost last night and Rask didn't have a horrific game, what would there be to go on for this narrative? It's not simply listing off his losses (which I never did), it's the role he played.

I'm well aware of how my posts are being perceived here. Doesn't mean I'm going to change my opinion to fit into what others keep echoing.

I don't think the goals were that bad.

If we had been up 1-0 and Rask gives up either of the 2 first period St Louis goals to tie it and we go into the intermission 1-1 noone is ripping him.

Its only because both went in after St Louis hadn't mustered a damn shot in the first 15 minutes people are on him.

But to asses blame on the second I would go in this order:
Gryz
Pasta
Rask
Marchand
McAvoy

Did he have a horrific game though? I mean, he was definitely outplayed by Binnington, but Binnington was God-like last night.

Which of the goals Rask gave up was horrific? The softest goal of the night was probably the one goal Binnington gave up.

I really don't care what you think, you can call me a Leafs fan if you want. I'm venting legitimate frustration about a player that routinely underperforms in crunch time and I've backed it up with numbers. I'm not just saying "Rask sucks lol".

What do you think his trade value is? He clearly doesn't deserve to be playing for a team that has fans as knowledgeable as you. People who know that a deflected shot hitting the net is the goalie's fault.

Living here in Tampere where Tuukka is a part-owner of my favorite (and his former) team Ilves, I hope he gets out of Boston ASAP. Then Bergeron, Krejci, Marchand and all the other great Bruins who don't underperform in crunch time will have a legitimate shot at another Cup. And Tuukka can keep sucking somewhere else. Hopefully in Canada where they don't have fans with the hockey expertise you have.

Tuukka is not the problem. Every time they lose he gets the blame. It’s like a pitcher in baseball, QB in football, superstar in basketball, they just blame you. I thought he should have had the first goal it was tipped I know but oh well. But I’m also not blinded as well. Tim Thomas won the cup . Tuukka still hasn’t but I’m not blaming him for this . Plus they aren’t trading Tuukka lol lol let’s get serious a little ,those that have suggested it.

I don't know how you can say this after this year. In elimination games (and there were 6 of them), he had a 1.35 GAA and .953 SV%. That includes his Game 7 stinker.

He didn't have a bad game for 2 months! He not only beat Jonathan Quick's playoff record for most .900 SV% games in a row. He obliterated it.

He was this team's best player throughout the playoffs, and you're going to throw that all away because he had 1 bad game?

How was it Gryz's fault? He made a pinch, got the puck to Pasta who immediately turned it over, and yet Gryz still got back to cover his man in front of the net. It was a nothing rush until Marchand changed out, and let Petro have a free lane to the net.

It was a bad turnover by Pasta, a horrible change by Marchand, and a weak attempt at a save by Rask.
I'd put the order Marchand, Rask, Pasta.

I agree with all you said. But what I can’t figure out why was Grizz pinching in with 18 seconds in the first period down at the time 1-0. Seems like a big gamble at that point in time.

Grizz( for taking the gamble)

Pasta ( for muffing it)

Marchand( for even thinking of going off the ice with 10 seconds left, gassed or not you gotta get back there for some type of support )

Rask - For not coming up big and making a big save. Which for all intensive purposes ended the game. It gave STL jump which shell shocked the bruins and kissed the cup goodbye.

He pinched because he wanted to keep the play in the St Louis end, and maybe get a tying goal. If he hadn't pinched, the Blues would have rushed up the ice with the puck anyways.

The Blues had 4 guys down in the corner, and only one up high. The Bruins had 2 guys at the point. The only gamble was in Marchand's defensive awareness.

If Marchand had just covered the trailer, Petro, after McAvoy takes Schwartz, at 1:25 of this video, instead of going to the bench, they would have been fine. Why is he changing with 10 seconds left?

Oh, and OMG, the Blues had 7 players on the ice when they scored the goal!!!!!!!

Rask had an incredible postseason. That was the best goaltending performance I've ever seen, including TT's play during the 2011 playoffs. Thomas was average for part of those playoffs (versus Montreal), whereas Rask had an otherworldly postseason from start to finish.

I see that Rask is being criticized for supposedly falling at the last hurdle. 4 goals on 20 shots looks bad on paper, but two of those shots were unstoppable, and the other two that went in would have been very tough saves. It's too bad that the forwards couldn't give Rask any support in Game 7; it's they who really let the team down.

Agree that Marchand was the biggest culprit here.

It's pretty telling that Binnington had a .914 sv% in the playoffs, while Rask had .911% IN THE GAMES THE BRUINS LOST. Different teams and all that, but still, that tells you a lot about how much the Bruins needed to lean on Rask to get anywhere in the playoffs.

I feel bad for Rask and part of the fanbase comes off as spoiled brats. Looking at the past decade, Bruins is one of the very few teams where you can say goaltending was never an issue for them. It's not easy to find that reliable starter who will give you a chance every year. Rask on a good year is about best in the league, even on a bad year he's still average. Let that sink in. Yet he keeps on taking crap because apparently some fans feel the team is so bad they need once in a century goaltending to have a chance. Whining about Rask and spinning stories, after he just had a playoff run pretty much unmatched by any other current goalie is bizarre.

1st goal was a deflection, the other 3 his team basically just abandoned him. The 2nd one on a good day he should've taken, but frankly the Bruins deserved to be scored on from that. How the **** do you play a period end like that on a game 7 of a SC final??? A team that plays like that simply doesn't deserve to win. Which sucks because I was really rooting for Bruins on this one.

Not a good picture at all.
However, it needs some context. I would be curious to see how other goaltenders fared in these situations as well. I have a suspicion, not based on anything, that unless you are truly one of the best goalies (Roy, Hasek, etc.) your stats in this situations as a goaltender does go down.
So I went through and looked at every active goalie's performance in elimination games. The table below is first sorted by games played, then save percentage. You can see a game log for every goalie in spoilers below. Obviously once you get down to someone like Hutton stopping 1 shot for a 1.000 save %, it doesn't matter at all, but I included it to be complete.

I think these numbers speak for themselves in regards to Rask.

I think these numbers speak for themselves in regards to Rask.

They definitely do. Could you please tell us all what you think his trade value is? He definitely doesn't deserve to be playing for a team as great as your Bruins. Bergeron, Chara, Marchand and Krejci would probably have at least three Stanley Cups already if they had a real goalie like Corey Crawford or Jimmy Howard playing behind them instead of this choker. Maybe four or five.

We do have Halak after all. Could just put Rask in for every other game and then pull a Julie Gaffney when it comes to an elimination game.

I appreciate the hard work but I don't think it really says anything about Rask's play in elimination games.

You could take all sorts of examples from it.

Ben Bishop for example has a very high SP%, yet has won 3 and lost 2.

Holtby's SP is pretty good and he's also only 8-6.

James Reimer is 2-1 with a .936. The two wins were vs. Boston. The loss was also against the Bruins in one of the most historic collapses in modern hockey history.

Lundqvist also has a very good SP and overall record, yet Rask has gotten closer to a cup than King Henrik has, not once but twice.

Fleury has been to 3 finals and one cup win, yet his overall record isn't great (7-9) and his SP is only average.

Crawford has two cups and a good record with a average SP.

The outlier for me is Quick, who has two cups, a great record (9-5) and a very good SP. I also would of said his two runs and Thomas's run in 2011 were the best playoff goaltending we've seen in the cap era just based on the eye-test alone.

You're embarrassing your son Mrs Rask. Go home.

Such stats are useful for separating two similarly accomplished goaltenders, but not for not for painting a whole picture imo.

Rask is still one of the better playoff preformers in his generation, but he could've done better in game 7 imo.

A 7 million cap hit for a guy you can't even play in important games is a giant waste of cap space. You really should get rid of Rask. Bergeron and Krejci don't have many years left and having a choker in goal robs them of their chance of winning.

Agree it's not great for seeing the entire picture.

I said it in another post, the 15 min stretch without a shot hurt Rask more than helped. He basically faced two shots from the end of warm-up until the O'Reilly deflection goal, which was almost a 45-min stretch when you factor in going back to the room, pregame ceremonies, time between whistles. He was understandably cold as ice.

I thought he could of played the Pietrangelo goal better (even though the bulk of the blame goes to Marchand for that brutal change). I didn't think he had much chance on goal 3 which was a well-placed one-timer from in tight, and the 4th which was a cross-crease one-timer.

Now if we're talking Game 7s in general, they haven't been his forte. I don't think he's been awful, but he's yet to be even close to the reason they won a Game 7 either.

Rask is great for Bruins ownership pocketbooks giving long playoff runs and milking the gardens. He's horrible for fans giving us eggers in Stanley cup finals tilting games. I love him and then I hate him. Can't figure this guy out.

He literally dragged the Bruins kicking and screaming to game 7 of the Stanley cup final and outplayed every other goalie along the way. But hey. At least you can admit you are a hater. Most here can't do the same.

Lalime got run out of Ottawa for being a choker after 4 straight collapses in Game 7s but his overall stat-line is still better than Rask's with a .911 save % in elimination games. I've looked at every current goalie, along with some notable past goalies that I knew to have either a clutch or choker label (Hasek, Brodeur, Roy, Thomas, Cloutier, Lalime, Nabokov, Turco) and the only goalie that has played 7+ games and has a worse save % is Ryan Miller (.895 to Rask's .899). If you stretch it back to 6, Cloutier (.884), Dubnyk (.870) and Bobrovsky (.860) are worse, although they've played half of the games Rask has. Extend that to 4 and you can add Varlamov (.865). He's not just average, he's among the very worst, and that's despite having one of the best playoff save percentages of all time.
