Trouba is better but his contract status/reported demands make it tough for Buffalo to pull the trigger.

He’s better than Risto right now on a 100pt team playing behind Buff. I have no clue how high Ristos ceiling is on a middle of the road team with another good D man for once. Couple that with Troubas contract situation and I’ll pass.

Someone just post the chart against already

Want a PP specialist? Consider taking Ristolainen.

Want literally anything else that has to do with playing as a defenseman? Trouba, and it is not close.

Guarantee you that Trouba's spreadsheet numbers don't look anything like that if he's playing for Buffalo. I'd suspect they'd be much closer to Risto's chart.
Why is it that Ristolainen, who is supposed to be the best defenseman on his team, sucks in relation to his teammates and does not have a consistent track record of elevating the numbers of his linemates, whereas the opposite is true for Trouba?

These teams are tough trading partners. WPG wants to compete now; and BUF only has futures or pieces which don't make sense for a possible rental: Eichel, Mittelstadt.

Maybe because WPG is a serious cup contender with boatloads of talent and that Buffalo is a completely shit team where the linemates Risto plays with are mostly AHLers. The reason his pp numbers look good is because thats one of the only times he's on the ice with other good players.

Ristos on the ice with everyone, that's the issue. Hes kn the ice with Eichel and hes on the ice with Girgensons/Larsson. Hes always on the ice, he plays comparable minutes to Doughty and Karlsson, and has no help. When Sabres have a PP is tu he only time hes on the ice with 4 other NHL caliber players.

I suspect his numbers come up as his ice time goes down, only time will tell, but I dont trade 4 cost controlled years for Troubas contract uncertainty. Hes the better player at this point in their careers, but he wants to get paid. It would be a bad decision to have Eichel at $10 million, and Trouba at @ $8 million if Dahlin becomes what hes expected to be and starts asking to be the highest paid player on the team in 2 or 3 years.

For Winnipeg, this is about as good as they'll do for a guy who wants no part in being there. Plus, there won't be a big hole on the right side after dealing Trouba.

Buffalo
Trouba

Winnipeg get out of mess of a contract situation and has the pieces set for a legendary power play

Buffalo has a great young pair in Trouba-Dahlin
Trouba isn't leaving Winnipeg for Buffalo. Trouba is heading for UFA more then likely he's either coming home to Detroit or playing here in Florida either Tampa or the Panthers.

The thing is, you're comparing Risto to a #1 defenseman. He shouldn't downright suck regardless of who he plays with, but rather elevate the linemates of his.

Trouba is better but he is also an acceptance of his 6mil qualifying offer next year away from being a pending UFA

But I mean it's pretty hard to elevate the play of tweeners. Trouba has the luxury of a stacked team around him and I think that it boosts his numbers.
