...the issue I see is that Kotkaniemi isn't getting proper development if he is still consistently playing behind both Suzuki and Danault going forward, which is what I see happening if we sign Phil to a big money long-term deal...no one is taking Danault's ability to be an elite shutdown guy away from him; it's extremely important to us, especially with our current Philosophy of play...that's the issue, imo; our Philosophy, what kind of team are we moving forward...look at the Isles, for example; our playing style is very similar to theirs and yet they don't sacrifice Barzal's ToI or Nelson's ToI despite how important Pageau and their 4th line are to that team because Trotz understands that you still have to outscore your opponent to win...there should be and will always be games where our Shutdown line leads the team in icetime; the issue lies in is it semi-frequent occurrence or is it how our team is built...if it's the latter, then it's been going on for years and has only gotten us as far as Price takes us...what I see is a need to find out how far Kotkaniemi can develop and that can only be done through playing at this point, since he can no longer be sent down to the AHL without having to go through waivers...I'd luv to keep Phil, but that's up to him and handcuffing ourselves with a $5+ mill long-term deal for a defensive specialist isn't what I consider progress moving forward...

2 top 60 picks, drouin in the sunshine and out of the spotlight, and player quite likely to be the top NCAA dman/Hobey Baker finalist next season for Comtois and the Ducks moving from Fowler's 5 yrs/32.5M$... i think that may be enough.
alternatively, perhaps K.Ghule/Drouin/Fleury for Fowler/Comtois gets it done (and the ducks eventually ice 2 brother duos in their top 6... would be a great marketing asset to work with lol)

I'm interested in Jones but I would not trade KK+ for him. 21 year old for a 27 year old. It would burn bad if KK bust out. I love the idea of adding Jones but their not getting KK. Sign/Trade requires less of a return IMO. I would use the Karlsson trade as a comparable. 1st, Romanov, 2nd, + could be a base to work with.

Then we would have to send another pick to Seattle for them to take Drouin.

Then other cap moves would have to be made. Cap space would be tricky this season and the following one. Roster below is just an example of how tight things would be. Then in the following season, we got Jone's new contract kicking in as well as Suzuki's bridge deal.

Gallagher is not going anywhere for a long time. He JUST signed an extension that literally made Bergevin cry.

Ducks seem quite high on Comtois, I think that the value isn’t there for them.

To keep things simple, we could do Drouin, Harris and 1st for Fowler.

But again, I remember reading somewhere that Fowler would not want to play in Canada (he has a very limited NTC).

Would you give a 2nd to Seattle for them to take Drouin? I prefer a 3rd but I might consider the 2nd. Then I wonder where the cap savings will be spent though

If Seattle has zero interest. Then I believe other teams will listen but they will ask for retention. Two more years left on his contract I believe? Signing bonus money all done from this past season if I remember correctly

All jokes aside, Drouin has a good complementary skills set with the rest of the team.

Unless Seattle is willing to grab him, I wouldn't trade him for nothing..
