if he's not called up soon, I don't see when he ever will be. the Hawks look so bad defensively. they need the help they can get

I think the Hawks are going through what the Rangers did last year. Their forwards are crap defensively outside of Anisimov, Toews, Hossa and Kruger. Their bottom-6 doesn't help drive the offense so they get pinned which is exposing their defense.

I was one of the people pimping Pokka at the start of the season. I like him quite a bit. In saying that, I don't see how he will be any different than Clendening who has been pretty good here in NY.

I'd still trade for him if he was available but I wouldn't move Fast. Maybe Lindberg but I would expect a later pick coming back.

Pokka + 3rd for Lindberg

or something along those lines.

Chicago isn't trading a top 4 D prospect (no matter how misused) for a 3rd line wing, at least i highly doubt it

Julius Honka with 4 points in 5 games.

Dallas needs a reliable defensive blueliner.

Could be a fit if NYR were willing to sacrifice Klein.

Just because I want to imagine for a second:

Klein for Honka

Lindberg for Pokka

McDonagh-Honka
Staal-Clendening
Skjei/Holden-Pokka

Moving the puck wouldn't be a problem

No. No. No. AV would play Honka on his off side on the third pairing, Honka - Pokka. Then, after trying to say those names over and over in a really fast manner it would effectively put Sam Rosen into retirement.

In all seriousness, I am on board for what you proposed. It would likely be Klein + but I am fine with that.

Yup, I proposed this trade in the middle of summer and got slammed 'cause "Dallas would never..."

IMHO, if this trade to happen the Rangers would be also asking for picks (or rights to certain other Dallas prospects :naughty:)

Obviously it happens only after the Rangers find their 1RD. The question then becomes who plays is 2RD? We are stuck with G and I like him with Skjei with lesser minutes. AV wants a shutdown pair so would would it be? He seems to not trust Clendening in this role. Holden was quite on point described as a "poor man young Girardi".

Nah, he'd call them both Ponka, and most of the time when he said it a different pairing would be on the ice anyway.

Frankly I'm a bigger fan of Montour than Honka. Unfortunately since ************* was killed I haven't seen many AHL games, but I thought Montour was the better player last season and people are saying he's only been better this year. Would've made the Ducks roster if they hadn't been so overloaded with depth defenders.

The point stands that there are definitely options out there and they don't need to be Trouba. Gorton for sure has his work cut out, but i believe we have the pieces to swing st least one good deal for a young D, and maybe one player who's disappointing but still had a chance. Like mentioned, Ryan Murphy or the ilk

Thank you, well said. This is exactly the problem. Last year they also had the same problem but they had a top 6 that could sufficiently mask the fact that the bottom 6 was hardly getting playing time mostly because JQ couldn't trust them defensively.

What do you know, a first round exit later, they didn't go far that year.

This year that Kane line is not clicking, the bottom 6 is still trash, and the defense (Keith, Seabrook) can't make up for it. Add in that Crawford isn't really that great of a goalie to begin with and you have what they are this year.

The defense isn't the problem, it's the bottom 6.

Fast OR Lindberg at this point is fine. Both are rather redundant in my opinion. Fast is more NHL proven at this point which is probably what Chicago wants.

I love the idea of Klein + for Honka. The pool of targets is going to keep getting bigger:

Honka
Pokka
Murphy
Vatanen
Trouba
Fowler (to flip)
Shattenkirk

The latter 3 will cost the most.
