There's no space for Jagr, I just don't see it. :(

Maroon - McDavid - Strome
Lucic - Draisaitl - Slepyshev (Chia stated that he likes him a lot and he showed a lot in the playoffs)
Jokinen - RNH - Puljujarvi (Chia stated that he expects Pulju to make the team and having Jokinen with Pulju is valuable)
Caggiula - Letestu - Kassian (Caggiula isn't going to the minors...)
Extras: Pakarinen, Khaira

Chia said that he wants to give the young guys an opportunity to play and signing Jags takes ice time away from Slepyshev, Pulju, and Caggiula.

I don't mean to fuel the speculation or anything but my coworkers told me that the traveling jagr's were spotted at the casino I work at yesterday.

"I don't mean to fuel speculation or anything, but lemme just pour this container of gas on the flames of conjecture"

I like those lines , and that would be best 4th line in the league,Pak man is expendable

I don;t know what people see in Caggiula. Is there one thing he does well enough to justify him being in the line-up over Khaira/Pakarinen? I admit I am a bit biased against smaller players who do not put up points and do not pk or win faceoffs.

Well for starters he's much more skilled than either Khaira of Pak, brings better speed/shiftiness. He's feisty and not afraid to get involved physically despite his size. If anything I think your critique of "smaller players who do not put up points" is very unfair. He was a 1st year pro last year (no AHL time) and missed the first 2 months of the season with an injury. There's more offence to his game than his point totals showed last year, and I'm willing to pretty much guarantee that he becomes a 30-40 point middle 6er at minimum in his career.

He also did PK over a minute per game in the playoffs and ~40 seconds per game during the season.

fair enough. He's young and may as well take a step forward this year.

I agree with this....however, IF a RNH trade happens for a Dman, Strome moves to 3C (Chia says he sees Strome as a C) and Then Jagr makes sense.

Of course this involves a lot of dominoes to fall, which is doubtful.

Jagr probably saw Speedy's post and figured he'd better get on the next plane to Edmonton, just in case.

He definitely has better offensive skill than Khaira/Pakarinenm. He hasn't put up many pts yet but plays don't die on his stick like they usually do with Khaira. He also plays with hustle and grit for a smaller guy. He has decent upside (30 pts per year imo) and it would be good for the Oilers to invest in him.

They can mold him into a 2-way 3rd line winger that plays with like a Gallagher with 40% less offensive production.

With Russell signing for 4 years, I doubt we see a trade for a major D man anytime soon. Getting another expensive D man would give us FIVE D men who would be getting paid 4M+ with Nurse and Benning due for extensions in a year. That would be pretty bad cap management.

An RNH deal will likely be for a downgrade for a cheaper similar player and hopefully with picks/prospects (with Chia, I doubt we get a + in the deal).

Tbh, it would be best to glue Strome next to McJesus to help revitalize his game. The guy is very skilled and talented and he could very well be our 3rd leading point getter behind McDavid/Draisaitl with 55ish pts if he develops chemistry with Connor. Granlund in MIN was able to have a break out season at age 24/25 after being moved to the wing, maybe the same happens for Strome.

Strome apparently has a good shot. I am interested to see what he can do on the wing with an elite centerman and big wingers like Lucic and Maroons. He probably will also get power play time ahead of Letestu.

How come I have a feeling a trade that comes out of nowhere, someone we would not expect is traded for:amazed:

Why? Letestu is better on the PP...much better.

If Strome does play on the PP it wont be in place of Letestu. IMO Stromes 5x5 play will dictate how/if he gets PP time.

His 5x5 play last season was underwhelming at best...he was the equivalent of a 4th liner.
He has a lot of work to do this season.

We have yet to see Strome on the PP in Edmonton. It's also very possible after many months, that Letestu one-time option may not be available as frequently as it was last season.

I suppose.
Although if Letestu's one timer was going to be less effective then it would have likely already happened during the season.

There is little reason to be excited about Strome based on last season.

If it's not there for Letestu, why would it be there for Strome? That's the role he would take. Right-handed shooter in the left slot that puts everything McDavid or Draisaitl hands him onto the net.

This is why I want a big right-handed shooter for the point on the PP. Klefbom is not much of a one-time option because he shoots left and has to take passes over his right shoulder. He can't just line up on a feed and crank it. If that option is more of a threat, PKs have to pinch up and take it away, which is going to open a seem more of the time.

We had a top-5 PP without it, I honestly feel like we could have a 25% PP with it.

18 points in 60 games most of which he was playing out of position at center on the 3rd line with grinders. He really established himself later in the season and looked fantastic in the Anaheim series.
I'm a fan of Khaira but Cagguila is far better than guys like Khaira and Pakarinen. Give him an opportunity with higher skilled players and watch him flourish.

I agree he by my eye seemed to work well with McDavid, seemed to be in the right place at the right time driving the net. He never cashed in really but that's just a matter of time.

Well, if teams start worrying about Letestu on the PP, with the likes of McDavid, Draisaitl, Lucic and Klefbom on ice, all the power to them.

The attention paid to McDavid, Drai et al open up space for a player like Letestu. Like him or not he is very effective on the PP.

The thing is that (unlike Letestu) history suggests that there is little to no reason to assume Strome is going to be a PP threat.

Thats my point. So why would not Letestu's one-timer be there this season? I suppose we'll see what Strome brings.
