...Briere for Volchenkov??...really??...we need rid of him, but not for Volchenkov...
Interesting idea. Volchenkov has been mostly garbage in New Jersey (though apparently playing well this year), but Briere has been pretty garbage with us. Similar cap hit to Briere but signed for 1 more year.
I think Briere has a much better chance of returning to being a productive player, while Volchenkov kinda is what he is - an aging, overpaid, slow but experienced defensive defenseman. I guess it comes down to whether we need Briere's scoring depth (however little it may be) or the defensive depth Volchenkov would bring. As putrid as our D looks sometimes, our goalscoring can be equally awful (28th in ES scoring I think?).
Anyway it's just some beat writer's musings, not even a real rumor. But I've heard worse.
