When you look at the trades other teams made for similar players, Sakic did really well. Ladd is the closest comparable to Boedker and we got a way better deal. Same for Gelinas compared to the other defensemen acquired during the deadline.

It still gives us the option of calling up Rantanen to really shore up the offense as well, rather than having to call him up because of the lack of offensive depth.

Sakic doesn't seem like that type. I think if push came to shove, they would have signed Wood. Interesting if true that they were at least considering not signing him.

I wonder if they were too concerned with his injury history and did not want to take the risk vs the reward of him panning out (still a long shot).

If Gelinas can't gain some confidence he could be a massive boon to our PP. Barrie and Gelinas would be an absolutely deadly PP pairing on the point.
