1st (1st) - Alexis Lafreniere, LW
1st (22nd; via CAR) - Jan Mysak, C
3rd (72nd) - Lukas Cormier, LD
3rd (92d; via DAL) - Alexander Pashin, RW
4th (103rd) - Ryan Francis, RW
5th (134th) - Alex Laferriere, LW
6th (165th) - Gunnarwolfe Fontaine, LW
7th (196th) - Ryan Kirwan, LW
7th (197th; via NSH) - Jeremie Biakabutuka, RD
7th (206th; via VAN) - Mark Hillier, C
Alex Laf and Alex Laf for the laughs (or should I say "for the Lafs").
Gunnarwolfe and Biakabutuka for the cool names.
Pashin and Francis for the shortkings.
Kirwan as the local boy.
and Hillier to replace Barron on paper, now that he's turned pro.
Oh and Mysak is pretty versatile and Cormier has great skating.

I like my haul :P
Lots of skill and I decided to really focus on forwards. I imagine in real life, NYR will likely take a much more rounded draft, but...:dunno:
I was more just focusing on having fun at each pick

The Carolina Hurricanes are pleased to end their TP experience with the 208th selection by choosing

Axel Kumlin

As general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, I would like to thank TribalPhoenix for this entire mock draft where, let’s admit it, the Canes came out better than any draft in memory.

Picks
13—Seth Jarvis is an excellent addition to our young core of highly productive forwards. Our entire staff thinks Seth will quickly become one of our top players with his exciting ability to find scoring opportunities for himself and teammates. We love his quickness and ability to make plays in both open ice and tight spaces. Seth’s upside is very high indeed—we see him in the growing line of smaller wingers who are succeeding in the NHL; players like Marchessault, Konecny, and Atkinson.
41—We thought moving back from pick 41 made sense for our organization. Now that we know who we acquired with picks 59 & 83, we think we have not only added two great prospects but filled two needs within our prospect pool.
53—Our organization has long lacked a high-end #2 center. Acquiring Vincent Trocheck should resolve that problem in the near term. We strongly believe that with the addition of Theodor Niederbach with this pick we have gone a long way toward giving the Canes multiple strong options down the middle in the near future. The Canes prospect pool now has several exciting centers (Ryan Suzuki, Jack Drury, Jamieson Rees). By adding one of the smartest hockey players in this draft class, we have made the center position the foundation for our future success. I personally think Niederbach has the ability to be a David Krejci-type player.
59—While our prospect pool is deep at the center position, it lacked a large, physically commanding center to eventually take Jordan Staal’s role. Jack Finley is just that type of player. This past season, he often matched up with the best scoring lines in the WHL and slowed or stopped them. Our scouts were impressed with both his strong defensive positioning and his above-average hands, which often led to easy goals for his teammates. Six-five 200 foot centers are very valuable. We are thrilled to add Jack.
69—Frankly, Brett Berard was our clear favorite among U.S. development team players this past season. Berard has an uncanny knack for making the right plays in the middle of the ice. His zone entry and zone exit metrics were among the highest in this draft class. But more than that what made our staff fall in love with Brett’s game is his diligence from the beginning to end of every shift. Brett plays hard and incredibly smart, two things the every team needs more of.
83—When we traded for this pick we hoped to get a prospect with some long-range upside. Instead we were thrilled to select a defenseman who already has a half season of professional experience. We had Eemil Viro among our top 40 prospects. As a 17-year-old playing with and against seasoned professionals Eemil displayed both athleticism and poise. He showed the ability to transition the puck with a quick burst of speed. We believe Eemil has the potential to be a long-term contributor in the NHL.
115—Our goalie scout and coach are both high on Calle Clang. He is a goalie who combines the ability to make athletic saves with the mental will to remain calm when the crease in front of him devolves into chaos.
140—As we get deeper into the draft our team likes to look for players with high potential. In Michal Gut we think we have acquired a player who will make great progress in the next few seasons. In fact, I see some similarities to Anthony Cirelli—another player who was younger when drafted but had already demonstrated leadership qualities to go along with a hard-nose playing style. Michal’s first taste of professional hockey in the Czech leagues is confirming our confidence in his potential.
199—WOW! That was our collective response when we realized that Daniel Ljungman was available in the 7th round. Daniel is a goal-scorer and every team can use more of them.
208—Axel Kumlin. One of our staff did a deep analytical dive of eligible defensemen and Axel rated out to a late third-round pick, so we are thrilled to draft him with our last pick. Axel is a strong skater who knows how to play angles and retrieve pucks. He is starting to develop another level of goal-scoring. We believe we have found a late-round diamond.
First I would like to commend the other GMs for often taking our target two picks before we were on the clock. Special kudos to the Habs, Kings, and Wild for doing a stellar job.
Every GM believes he and the scouting staff have found the best value at every pick. That said, our organization is thrilled to come away with one of our top choices at every position including several of our favorites centers in the 2020 class.
Thanks again TP for a successful draft experience.

Kings! That's me!:scared:
The Kumlin pick is a really good one at this point of the draft. There is still a couple Swedes D left that are worth a gamble!
And Seth Jarvis at 13, this alone makes your draft a succes!

The
:isles
are pleased to conclude our draft by using pick #214 to select,
from the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders in Minnesota,
center Jack Smith

PRESS RELEASE

Long Island, New York
: "We'd have liked to have seen him in the USNTD program, which he turned down, but ultimately his injury-riddled season is the one thing allowing us to get Jack at this juncture of the draft. In our book, he's the best high school player coming out of Minnesota this year and you'll be seeing why we think that in due time."

@m0pe : You're up with the next two picks.

New York Islanders
90 - Left wing Cross Hanas from the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL
121 - Center/Right wing Ryder Rolston from the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL
152 - Center Dmitry Zlodeyev from Dynamo Moscow of the MHL
183 - Defenseman Ilya Solovyov from the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL
214 - Center Jack Smith from the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders of USHS-MN.

With the 215th overall selection in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft the Vegas Golden Knights are proud to select, from the Carleton Place Canadians in the CCHL...

G - Devon Levi

Draft Results
1(29). LW - Lukas Reichel
3(68). RD - Eamon Powell
3(91). RW - Veeti Miettinen
6(184) - RW - Yegor Chinakhov
7(215) - G - Devon Levi

Quite happy with this draft for Vegas. Felt we got a big steal in the late 1st with Reichel dropping to us after the year he just had playing against men. Miettinen and Chinakov are far from sure things but are both super talented forwards who produced at a high rate in their league. Powell, while not the most flashy guy, is one we feel is just projects well as a solid NHL defender. Levi is a lesser known goalie playing in the CCHL but a save percentage of .941% shows there is something worth looking into this late in the draft.

Buffalo pick to come shortly.

With the 216th overall selection in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft the Buffalo Sabres are proud to select, from the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL...

W - Reid Valade

Draft Results
1(8). C - Marco Rossi
2(38). RW - Daniil Gushchin
4(100). LD - Samuel Knazko
5(131). G - Joel Blomqvist
7(193). RD - Charlie Desroches
7(216). W - Reid Valade

As a Sabres fan, this would be my ideal draft. Rossi at 8 is exactly what that team needs and should not be dropping that far regardless of his size. Gushchin is a really under the radar guy who if he hits could become an electric top-6 player. Knazko, following the trend of smaller players with high offensive upside, has some of the best playmaking skills of any D in this draft. Blomqvist gives us our 3rd ranked goalie in this draft, who was closer to the 10th goalie taken surprisingly. Desroches and Valade are two guys who we noticed when scouting other players who just continuously were making the right play and could become solid NHL role players one day.

Thanks @TribalPhoenix for running this. Glad we were able to squeeze one last one in on time.

PMing next GM.

would like to conclude the TP 2020 Draft by selecting,
from the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL,
forward Brady Burns

Press quip

Tampa Bay, Florida-
"We've seen this kid a lot this season as he was on a line with our Slovakian prospect Cajkovic. Brady has plenty to work on, but he's a firefly out there with hands of gold. Sure, he's a lightweight and small, but we've been down that road plenty of times before."

Tampa Bay Lightning
62) Left Wing Emil Heineman from Leksand of the SHL
85) Left Wing James Hardie from the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL
93) Defenseman Wyatt Kaiser from the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL
94) Defenseman Ian Moore from the Chicago Steel of the USHL
124) Defenseman Mitch Miller from the Tri-City Storm of the USHL
157) Right Wing Simon Knak from the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL
186) Left wing/Center Artyom Galimov from Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL
217) Left wing Brady Burns from the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL

Many thanks @TribalPhoenix - it was a blast!

One thing I really liked and appreciated about this draft is that it was one of the few times where, round for round, I hardly ever got the guy I was truly aiming/wishing for. Lots of you guys were basically picking the same players I was shooting for it made things challenging and eyebrow-raising, so to speak.

Touché!

:avsColorado Avalanche Draft Review:

1/24 John-Jason Peterka, LW, EHC Munich (DEL):

Just a real Avalanche pick. 200 foot player, some skill, high motor and not concerned about stature. J Joey Jo Jo Junior Shabbadoo is a favorite of the Avs board here. In three years when the Avalanche are going for a 4 peat and MacKinnon gets his raise having a winger on a ELC to step in on the 2nd line will be helpful.

3/75 Drew Commesso, G, Boston Univ.(NCAA):
Avalanche could use some insurance in the Goalie pipeline if Jusstus Annunen doesn't work out. They also like goaltenders they don't have to sign immediately and Commie can marinate in college.

4/117 Xavier Simoneau, C, Drummonville Voltigeurs (QMJHL):

Swinging for the fences here and I know @OB5 is lurking for him. If he were 5'11" he would have gone in last year's draft so he's worth the shot and him being an offensive dynamo for the Colorado Eagles wouldn't exactly be the worst thing for this organization.

5/148 Ryker Evans, D, Regina Pats (WHL):
Underrated guy. Not flashy, on a bad team and 5'11". Has a good shot at being a bottom pairing guy.

6/167 Christoffer Sedoff, D,
Red Deer Rebels (WHL):
Good skating defensive Dman. What's not to like.

7/210 Kristóf Papp, C, Michigan State (NCAA):
Got traded to a USHL team that was a bad fit which made his draft stock take a hit. Hell of a skater and has some skill. Going the NCAA route and will have time to marinate and condition. Plus I have a dumb fetish for players from nontradiational hockey powers.
