Just for the record, the Leafs did not lose to the Canadiens because of a lack of physicality. The Leafs lost because of a lack of intensity, which was also found lacking against Columbus. Unless Simmonds is going to blow a bugle in the ear of #16 before each game - and especially playoff games - he can do nothing to bolster that.

A complete lack of offensive contribution from the bottom six, in large part due to carrying useless players, played a part in that loss to Montreal.

Spezza was the only guy in the bottom six who did anything. Carrying both of Thornton (1 goal and a minus 3) and Simmonds (1 assist), as well as Mikheyev (zero points), Brooks/Nash (zero points) and Engvall (1 assist) to fill out the bottom six put all that much more pressure on the top six to produce.

Ughhhh... f***. This dude is done. He has no skills left. He can't handle the puck, much less pass it or make plays. His shot isn't very impressive; he can beat goalies from really close to the net if someone sets his ass up. He's nothing special at grinding or being physical at this point. Basically a waste of a roster spot.

Yes no one is the problem and even less people are held accountable .
Biggest embarrassment fail ever...why even fire one guy

Lol. He was supposed to be the guy that played hard and helped them get over the playoff hump and I maybe noticed him one shift in the 7 game series.

Mikheyev buries the rebound from Nylander's shot in Game 5 and that seals the deal.

Unfortunately, we're not playing lawn bowls, so «coming close» doesn't mean anything...

They lost in Game 7 to a team that is in the Stanley cup final. Oh, and they did that WITHOUT Tavares.

Toronto is good enough to beat any team in the East except Tampa. Dictating their success based on signing Simmonds is ridiculous.

And that applies for any team, not just Toronto. Signing a cheap vet is almost irrelevant except it gives trolls a chance to rip on a GM.

WSH, BOS x 2, CBJ and MON are exceptions as well.

The Leafs lost because John Tavares got a knee to the skull

Spezza is the only oldie Toronto should keep. Anything over 750K is too much for Simmonds.
Who else though can the Leafs get for league minimum that is better? Simmonds can still play a role. And his entire salary can go to the minors if needed.

I know and the came 1 goal short, so in order for them to have lost with him, he would have had to prodce, literally nothing, not 1 point.

That would not have happened
They were up 3-1. They lost because their star players couldn’t produce when it counted. Just like against Columbus last year when they had Tavares. It’s five years in a row now. No more excuses.

You can get good hockey players for league minimum. Simmonds isn't one of them. Why are Toronto collecting the worst ex-Sabres? Makes no sense.

What choice does Dubas have though? The cap is flat, and he needs to fill out his roster. Simmonds will be good on a line with a young speedy guy, like Robertson.

I would absolutely give that opportunity to a prospect or acquire a prospect ready to play than to sign declining fodder like him.

I know the Leafs window is open but if you can bring in someone HUNGRY for the opportunity, even someone young and inexperienced and get them to buy in, you'd be amazed with what a little talent and drive with do to the Leafs on the ice and in the locker room. WS has not won a damn thing and players like him bring the team down.

He didn’t do much but he was also paid in line with that. Decent value and will protect teammates if necessary. I’m good with him coming back.
