Lol! Return?
He’s making $1.8 million. It’s going to cost to move that contract.
He makes 900k and it can be buried IIRC

Can a tanking team like Arizona or Chicago be interested in a good veteran? He sucks but would be a nice player to have around your young guys

900k, which means the whole contract can be buried by Toronto, however they are attempting to move the player at his request since he's apparently not interested in going to the AHL.

Step 1.
try to trade him for future considerations so the player can choose where they go. Never a bad idea to let free agents know you will do what you can to accommodate them if things don't work out.

Step 2.
if step 1 does not work, waive his fully buriable contract.

Somehow people will have an issue with this though because it is HF

Why would anyone give up anything for a has-been who is absolutely useless? Why would you shop for crap when you can just claim crap off waivers?

These articles are comical.
No team trying to win hockey games will acquire him

Realistically, he could go to a bottom feeder for future considerations. The tanking team gets a player to help the race to the bottom while also obtaining a guy who is known to be great for the locker room. The Leafs loved Simmer, he's someone you want around your young guys imo

Leafs aren't looking to get value here, just want to send him somewhere he'd like and can play

He's cooked. No one wants a player like that unless they are behind the bench or in a mascot uniform. Wayne would make a good Youppi though.,

Simmonds for Gambrell and a 4th

Toronto saves a couple bucks and Gambrell is a serviceable AHL player.

Senators get a bit tougher and more veteran leadership.

I don't think Leafs are going to get much more.

They're just putting in the email to accommodate a soldier. They could easily waive him or bury him in the AHL but this option allows Simmonds to have a bit of control over where he ends up.

I think the 4th would be more than fair, and Ottawa isn't too far away from Toronto.

Offering a player around the league to either
A.) let him pick his spot if multiple teams were in on him (IMO very unlikely)
B.) trying to avoid having to hurt his provide through waivers

Gonna be a conditional 7th if he scores like 30 or something…. More than likely there are no takers. He gets sent down and decides if hw wants to play t

No one's saying he's good, everyone knows he sucks. But besides that there is value to him that a specific set of teams may desire. Teams need good veterans while rebuilding
Teams need good veterans that can contribute on the ice. Simmonds can't contribute on the ice. He's cooked. Ergo, no one wants crap like SImmonds let alone would shop for it.

Senators would waive gambrell anyway. So it's not like its a huge gift.

Watson/kelly-kastelic-simmonds would be a fun 4th line

Do you think a team who is tanking cares much about contribution to the ice? You keep talking about all teams when I'm looking at a subset. Of course like ~25 clubs have no use for him

A tanking team can get a veteran who will occasionally fill in on the 4th line and be a good presence to be around. That's all it is. Toronto just wants to help send him somewhere he can play

No chance Ottawa does that. Doubt we do Gambrell straight up.

Did you even bother reading the tweet? He’s free. Toronto can bury him in the minors with no cap implications but would rather give him the chance to end his career with playing time instead of with the Marlies.
