I don't see why the Devils even do this. I have no confidence Leivo is ever going to be better than an NHL 4th liner, and Boyle provides more value to us.

In the real world NJ keeps Boyle. Shero signed hi. To provide that all important vet presence for Hynes to lean on. Think Lovejoy as a forward. Maybe if NJ is clearly out of a playoff spot at the TDL they do Boyle a solid and send him to a team that has a chance.

I don't think it is, it was a major reason as to why CBJ traded him for Clarkson in the first place.

Doubt that has changed, but I could be wrong.

If it’s not insured it’s unlikley that TOR can move the contract for anything reasonable. TOR is going to have to be very judicious in signing support players for its core.

Why do you care? He has only one year left on his contract and you have like 14M in available cap space. He could be paid 8M it wouldn't matter.

For once I agree with Anish, Toronto should be all over this, Boyle would instantly make them better and is a good fit. At the expense of Leivo? Go for it and don't look back.

The problem with the remaining cap space is that 1) Nylander needs to be signed 2) Horton needs to be on the roster to avoid bonus overages next year when it's going to be tight.

Leafs would be better off running 11F 7D
Matthews/Tavares get approximately 21 minutes a night, Kadri 18. Use Hainsey as a PK specialist instead of force feeding him too pairing minutes that he can't handle.

It’s not that he is overpaid. Toronto’s cap situation is complicated.
Yes we have a little over 14m in cap space if Horton is put on LTIR but if we do that any elc bonuses Matthews and Marner earn will be added to next years cap. And next season we will be much tighter to the cap than we are now.
To avoid this we have to keep Horton off LTIR (5.3M) and still have enough space to cover the ELC bonuses (3-5M). After that and re-signing Nylander how much room do we really have left.
If a great opportunity comes along we could carry bonuses over but is Boyle really the guy to do that for considering the centers we already have.

The Leafs have $14.5M without putting Horton on LTIR according to capfriendly. They can sign Nylander, acquire Boyle and still have enough to cover the 3-is million in bonuses.

If Hortons contract is insured TOR needs to suck it up and give AZ a third round pick and a B+ prospect and be done with it. Does TOR want to win or worry about their cap?

I am pretty sure it isn't. That is why he was available, Columbus didn't want to pay Horton and Toronto didn't want to play Clarkson.

We have a bit of cap space to absorb the rookie bonus then we'll LTIR him, not a big deal.
