He is not strong enough to perform 4th line duties but as noted above, good vision offensively and he can dish some surprisingly nice passes.

Will likely be a healthy scratch on most nights and step in once in a while when someone’s injured.

Capitals should have qualified him, but I guess they needed to ensure they had every penny for Justin Schultz. Boyd is a great 13th forward who can fill anywhere in the line-up when injuries hit. Good depth scorer with solid hockey sense and a little pace to his game. Not a penalty killer, but could slide onto your PP2 if injuries thin your ranks.

Problem with Boyd is his game doesn’t work in the bottom six but he’s not good enough to be in the top six. He’s a solid 13th forward. Surprisingly good hands and good offensive instincts but he gets bullied around the ice, especially on the boards. Good player but I always thought he has a bit more to give.

Shouldn't this thread be about AJ since he is the FAR better player in the trade? This is a clear cap dump for the Leafs

Boyd's the stereotypical AHL/NHL tweener. Too skilled for the AHL, not skilled enough for an NHL top 6, not well-rounded enough for an NHL bottom 6. Can play C or W though, so he's a pretty good 13th forward.
