Toronto needs another d-man to be able to win in the playoffs, NY needs future pieces because they're simply horrible, similarly to my habs.

This is just a spitball starter idea, so help me out with my first proposal,

Could something be built around a Kevin Shattenkirk for a Liljegren of Sandin?

Toronto has a large window as long as they can keep the big forwards around, so they have time to wait for their d prospects to develop, but they need to push for a win now while everybody is on board.

As for contract situations, I know the Rangers are tight for cap space, if they were to retain say $1 million or $1.5 mil, and the Leafs threw in their 1st, could the wheels turn a bit?

Help me out here

Who said the Leafs can not win in the playoffs with the new roster? I believe they can win and I am sure many people agree with this.

Sandin and Liljegren looked awesome in camp. Solid pairing. They could up with the Leafs as early as next season. They are going to be Toronto’s Swedish D pairing. Both 1st rounders.

Whether or not Shattenkirk's contract is good or bad, Toronto does not have the cap space - unless it is Nylander going the other way.

Shattenkirk has a bad contract? Based off of what?

He was the third best RHD in last season with Blues. He's a good PP guy, but really he's no better than average at even strength.
Yea, it's not good a contract for the Rangers, maybe not a bad contract though. Certainly he isn't needed by the Leafs.

Don't see this happening. Rangers aren't doing it for Sandin, and Leafs aren't trading either of them.

Toronto can't afford shat's cap hit.

Shatenkirk doesn't fit toronto's window.

Shatenkirk doesn't fill a need for toronto.

Tear this one apart and start again.

Leafs fan here, the only help i can give you is don't try this again. It's an easy pass.

Toronto can't afford to do this.

But, still....Shattenkirk has a bad contract? You forgot the :sarcasm:.

I guess anything longer than one year is a bad contract according to HF. Add in the fact that he'll be 30 in January, and, oh man...

Everyone knew Shattenkirk was going to sign in New York before he did because there were tons of rumors that he wanted to live there. Think we might need to target someone else.

Shattenkirk is not the type of guy we need. We have pick movers, we need strong, defensively responsible d-men

We need rl gud family men and rl gud pros

We need guys that do it right every night

We need big big men, guys that are 6’3/6’4 every time they step on the ice

I feel like you may really be onto something here. Something around Calle Sjalin and Ryan McGregor might work.

It's not a bad contract by any means. He got hurt last year and is going to be playing big minutes for them. If he gives the Rangers even 40 points it's a decent deal considering he left money on the table elsewhere.

I understand Toronto doesn't need him and I'm not even commenting on that, just the part of his contract being "bad." It's simply not.

I don’t care if they’re family men or good pros. And I don’t care if the players hate each other. All I care about is them winning a cup.

Hell no.
TO got to see Shattenkirk on the bottom pairing in the playoffs against them so I doubt they'd be interested.

Everyone ripping on this but really it's just that Shattenkirk is a PP specialist and the Leafs already have a top two NHL PP.

Liljegren and Sandin just need a bit of patience, Leafs have a big window.

I’d do it for Liljegren but not Sandin
Shatty isn’t the type of dman the Leafs need and he came to NYR because he WANTS to stay here for his contract, doubt he waives but Toronto is a team I could see him waiving to
Leafs should save that cap space and not take on Shatty at 7 mil

Also, Shatty’s contract is no where near bad, he played injured last year (said he didn’t want to disappoint) and then eventually he couldn’t play any longer so he decided to sit out the rest of the year
He’s been great for us
