Apparently Guerin is still mad about Menell going to KHL, that's the only explanation for this move.

Makes no sense to give away assets for nothing

Wild fans, whats this guys story?
Had a great AHL year 2 years ago. Went to KHL last year and was the best offensive D there. But is 24 (maybe 23) and hasn't made it to NHL. He wanted a 1 way deal to go back to MIN and Guerin supposedly was fixated on a 2 way.

He was the top point producing defenseman in the KHL last year. Put up two great years in the AHL before that. Never got an opportunity because we were deep on defense, but could have had a chance this past season. He decided to sign in the KHL because the AHL season was still up in the year & the Wild wouldn’t commit to a one-way contract with him. This ticked off Guerin and he refused to offer him a 1-way contract this offseason.

Led the AHL in points two years ago for D, with the uncertainty of the AHL last year decided to go to the KHL where he also led it in points for D.

BG apparently held a grudge against a player doing what is best for himself (despite BG holding out as a player twice in his career), and sold him for peanuts.

RHD who led both the AHL and KHL in PPG the past two years. Average(not small) size. Good skater, vg puck skills and vision. Left the AHL for the KHL last September when he wasn't sure that the AHL would even have a season (he was half right). Apparently Guerin was mad at him for that, and wanted to sign him to a two way contract when he clearly had earned a shot in the NHL. I mean, the guy was only looking at the NHL minimum for a team that is desperate for ELC players, and has lost two of their top 5 Dmen.

Nice! Love taking the chance, and if he plays 30 games that's 100% worth it

Funny thing is, if he does play 30 games, that puts the Leafs at 2 picks in 2022

There's obviously no guarantee that he'll have an impact at the NHL level but that doesn't justify essentially giving him away

An incredibly rash decision by Guerin, at the very least he could have held out to secure a nonconditional pick
