People actually want a lineup like that? its unreal how soft that is.

And we didnt pay Komarov 3 million to play on the 4th line, and Santorelli is better than both Frattin and Ashton by a large margin, and yet you have him on the 4th??

McLaren started the year on LTIR. He had nothing to do with trading Colborne because he wasnt even taking up a roster spot. Apparently facts dont matter when it comes to guys like McLaren though. Regardless Colborne sucks, anyone complaining about him being gone is just complaining for the sake of it.

I forgot about that. The point is we chose to keep a goon such as Orr instead of a youngster who offered much needed C depth.

In the long run it ended up costing us an additional 2nd rounder.

Colborne had 28 points last season. 10 goals and 18 assists. Not bad, granted he probably needed a change of scenery.

He wouldn't have cracked our line-up and still wouldn't looking at this year. His deal was up so we moved him. We would have lost him to waivers had we kept him

There is more to this stuff than you are taking into account

Reimer stats line up almost exactly with Bernier's. He has every right to ask for $3M and could get it.

36 12 16 1 98 1,095 997 .911 3.29 - Reim

55 26 19 7 138 1,787 1,649 .923 2.68 - Bern

doesnt look close at all to me, reims played 20 less games and had a much worse stat line.

he'll get 2.5m at best, not gonna get the same as bernier(2.9).

I'd like to see us have a sheltered scoring line with Fratin Holland and Kontiola, try and see what they can do. Same idea as the year Kadri broke out, use Komarov Ashton and Clarkson as a shut down/energy line. Bodie as the 13th forward.

First line for scoring - jvr bozie kessel
Second line for scoring - lupul kadri santa
Third line for shut down/energy - Ashton komarov Clarkson
Hollands line as sheltered scoring - Kontiola - Holland and Fratin

See what ya got in him and Fratin. If they put up decent numbers they would be really valuable at the deadline because of how little they cost.

Holland didn't exactly "crack our lineup" last season either.

I hope it is a different story this time around.

This is a great deal for both sides. Holland gets to avoid being lumped into next years UFA class, and the Leafs get a good number in return.

Should have specified career stats.

Reimer - 140 gp - 65-48-15 .914 pct 2.85 gaa
Bernier - 117 gp - 55-39-13 .918 pct 2.51 gaa

Pretty much the same win/loss record when you pro-rate it. Pct is pretty much equal. Bernier has gaa, but it is pretty much universally accepted that pct is the best indicator of individual performance for goalies.

If he goes to arbitration, he won't be compared to Bernier, he'll be compared to goalies around the league.

I like how the new management is making players earn their pay and pushing for promotions within the team while bringing in leaders. This is how a team should be run IMO

Let's not turn this into a Reimer/Bernier thread please.

As for Holland, nice deal! I want to see how he does on the wing, gives us more options. Hope he figures it out and we have a steal at $775K for a year or two!

is it really 775K? lol how does he get less pay than ashton.

Good signing though and for 2 years too

Security

Holland gets the 775k x 2 years guaranteed.

Ashton gets 850k x 1 if he sticks on an NHL roster, otherwise he makes 67.5k in the AHL.

Fantastic deal for the team. Last year, when he got over 10 minutes a game of play he scored at just over a 50 point pace. I'd like to keep playing him as a centre, though I wouldn't mind if he moved up in the lineup at wing either.

Hopefully, with Spott behind the bench, he'll be able to influence Carlyle on just how valuable Holland might be to the leafs.

How did you calculate that pace?

They signed Bernier for $2.9M before he put those numbers up. Reimer's looking at $3+ pretty easily.

Conflicted with Holland. On the one hand, he really has great skills in tight areas, and seems to be able to put the puck in the net, at least on AHL goaltenders. On the other, not very good on face-offs, doesn't play with much intensity at all, and isn't physical.. And when I mean he isn't physical, I mean it. He hits nobody.

Is he good enough to be a skill guy with very little intangibles? Guess we'll see.

I like Holland a lot when I watch the Marlies I always find myself really surprised at how he seems to make the right play so often. I also think with his size and skating ability he could continue to develop away from the puck I really like this kids game I hope I'm right about him because I see a lot of good things. Great deal Nonis both him and Ashton for next to nothing now deal Franson and riemer.

I like how he received a paycut. In the past they probably would have just given him an even $2 million for nothing...

Holland played very well when given 2nd line minutes and better linemates then 4th line slugs.

Colborne was given every opportunity in training camp last season and failed miserably. He was dreadful in the pre-season.

I like the deal but mixed on Holland.

Let's just say he is gonna have to open some eyes if he is going to carve out a spot on the team. Worst case scenario we have a quality centre who can possibly move up and down the lineup. Never a bad thing..
