Kurtis Gabriel is one of the coolest dudes and we’re sending him to the worst organization. Sad days.

Maybe Bettman mandated this trade to get a good dude to Chicago.

Realistically right now we have 3 forwards out.
Lost Brooks and Amadio and still gabriel was not getting mentioned as a callup.

Let him bash some faces for Chicago.

Dubas' advanced analytics: "The dude's name is Chad! Score!"

Seriously though, depth deal.

Are you saying that because he's been very vocal on issues lately? Or just a straight up good dude which I have heard.
Never thought of it that way. But I doubt Bettman is worried about Chicago right now with Arizona around.
This Arizona problem might make our Matthews leaving problem go away.

Gabriel wasn't coming close at all to getting a NHL roster spot for the rest of the season. It's more important to give those opportunities to younger guys like Anderson. And Clifford addition filled the tough guy niche.

Krys is still only 23. Time yet for the development guys to try and mold him into a depth #7 type.

Either way, not a trade that will likely impact anything else than the Marlies

And pretty well every single name you listed are better players/prospects than any of the fridges we drafted or signed under Hunter, Burke, Nonis. Weird.

Makar
Quinn Hughes
Adam Fox
Jared Spurgeon
listed at 6' but aren't:
Kris Letang
Erik Karlsson

So yes, there are small star defensemen. And there always have been: 4 star defensemen in 1987 under 6': Ray Bourque, Phil Housley, Mark Howe and Randy Carlyle.

But out of the 285 defensemen who have played in the NHL this season, only 44 of them are under 6'.
That's 15%. And 69% of those 285 defensemen who have played NHL games this season are 6'1" or taller. I just don't think it's super wise to over-emphasize drafting a demo that accounts for only 15% of players at a position.

Not a fan of players with 2 first names ala Mike Craig. Sorry Krys. I mean Chad.
