-Interesting trends
-Really shows who is the best player in the league on a consistent basis over time. Really shows how dominant Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux really are. A broken down old Lemieux still put up better stats then a rookie made Ovechkin in his prime in the 2000s. Sidney Crosby the only player to hold the top spot, and, still holding the top spot in points per game over Mcdavid. Mario Lemieux had the biggest stretch of dominance over anyone in the 1990s over any other #1 player in any other decade, beating every other player by an insane 1.26 points per game for an entire decade. Not even Wayne did that in the 80s.
-Cream always rises to the top to win the Cup. Easy to see who the stars really are without the homer glasses on.
how are you in your prime when you are a rookie? LMFAO
Ahh the PPG argument,-Look at his stats. Rookie season was one of his best, Ovi's stats went straight downhill after 5 years in the NHL. His best stats were from 2005-2010. He wasnt even in the dead puck era and still couldnt beat Lemieux, lol
Ahh the PPG argument,
It helps your PPG when you have only 170 games played over a 6 year span compared to someone who played 396 over 5 years. 226 MORE games played and yet his PPG is ONLY 0.01 LESS! Are you kidding me?
Ovechkin had more GOALS SCORED (269) than Lemieux had POINTS (227)
Are you arguing that prime Lemieux was better than prime Ovechkin?-Not really kidding as I posted the stats. And Lemieux was 39 years old. Take off 20 years and oh baby...
wait why are you bringing up 20 years ago? you said Mario was better than OV in the 2000's, don't shy away from that because I exposed you. we all know Mario > OV all-time. but in the 2000's like YOU MENTIONED, he was not better than OV.-Not really kidding as I posted the stats. And Lemieux was 39 years old. Take off 20 years and oh baby...

Based on your conjecture in the following sentence, I'd guess that less than 50% of people knew what these numbers would have looked like without your posting them.-The point of the thread was point per game numbers, the most valuable stat there is. And in point per game numbers he certainly was. I wonder how many people would know what these numbers would have looked like without me posting them. Most people thought Mcdavid was on top. Wrong

The bolded is just a 100% lie. Where the hell are you getting that Mario scored 1.26 ppg more than anyone else during the 90s?
Regardless, Lemieux scored at a 2.06 PPG pace and Gretzky scored at a 1.37 PPG pace. That's a .69 PPG difference, not close to the 1.26 PPG gap that he made up. Not to mention, Gretzky played more than twice as many games as Lemieux in the 90s and as you mentioned, that includes the dead puck era. What OP has done here is take Lemieux’s PPG from what amounts to 4 full seasons in the early 90s when scoring was way up, and compare it to guys who played the entire decade including the Dead Puck Era.
I’m all for an opportunity to talk about how jaw-droppingly great he was with the puck, but this was a really bad way to do it.
It seems just a tad disingenuous to use numbers from guys that only played a couple years in an entire decade as opposed to players that played some of their early years or past prime years in that decade. For example, how can you have Lemieux in the 2000's when he only played 170 of a possible 700+ games in that decade but someone like Thornton is left off the list but played well over 600 games.2010s
