My oh my all of you are aiming too high on this list. I say adios to those that put Ellis, Ekholm, Hjalmarsson, LARSSON, and especially CARLSON as better players than Brodie.

Carlson has been worse than Niskanen for about 2 years now. It seems like the majority of posters don't believe Caps fans when they say that.

Yup. Carlson is really overrated nowadays and Niskanen is underrated. Niskanen is the best dman on that team

I have Orlov, personally, but Niskanen narrowly missed my top 25.

Caps have themselves two excellent players there.

The one-dimensional defensemen don't belong on the same list as the guys who anchor both offense and defense, 5 on 5.

Guys like Karlsson, Hedman and Doughty are a tier above guys like Josi or Vlasic. I would say Subban is in the former list, a guy like Gostisbehere or Alzner belong in the latter, inferior list of one-dimensional defensemen.

I think once you get past the top 5-10 you enter a wide field of talent.

Karlsson
Burns
Doughty
Hedman
Weber
Subban
Keith
Pietrangelo
Letang

No order, just the very best active dmen at the end of this past regular season. IMO.

Keith's last stand, probably. :(

One of the better lists, but Shattenkirk and Klefbom seem a bit out of place. No Hamilton or Slavvin? or even Klingberg or *blegh* Trouba...

Not a big fan of Yannick Weber

Glad you mentioned Hamilton.

He's like riiiiight there. Maybe 27 or 28. He could easily break in.

I also strongly considered Slavin, Trouba, and Klingberg. You're not far off with any of those.

25 is harder than you think it is when you actually sit down and try to get it to 25.
