Also - both McDavid and Crosby won hart/ross in their second season. I can't wait to see how Bedard does next year. Can he take that same jump and win ross/hart? And even if he doens't reach quite that high - the league is super deep right now, especially the top 5, can he somehow simply reach that top 5 group by next year? Seems like such a hig bar - will be fun to see.
I think it’s more likely that he challenges in year 3. He just isn’t as physically mature as those guys were. Also I expect the team to still be pretty awful around him next year.

If he doesn't, I wouldn't hold him against him that much, the list of guys that have done it are Gretzky, Crosby and McDavid.....that's it.

No one will put him, but Montembeault deserves to squeak into the 9 or 10 slot. He's been great this year, put him on a top tier team and he would be lights out.

Anyone think Crosby should still be in the top 10?

I'm hardly a Penguins fan but feel like the Penguins would be an absolute dumpster fire without Crosby. He may not be in the top of the scoring stats but whenever I do watch the Pens, he's usually still the best player on the ice, especially when you factor in his 2-way game.

There's no way Demjo is better than Shesterkin and Sorokin. Dude's amazing spectacular season right now is 0.917, Shesterkin's worst season in the NHL currently he's 0.913. Career-wise there's no comparison.

Wondering why you have McDavid 1st this season when Kucherov and Mackinnon are having better seasons

Wait what? MacKinnon has played 60 more minutes of powerplay icetime and has a lower pts/game. McDavid scores around 10 points per 60 minutes of PP time, so that is 10 extra points if the Oilers got as many powerplays as the Avs. McDavid has been far superior defensively and has won 5% more faceoffs. Kucherov has 6 more empty net points than McDavid and still is behind him in pts/game. All of that is with McDavid playing 10 ish games injured at the start of the year.

I get that the voters will give MacKinnon the Hart because of the "his turn" narrative, but don't confuse yourself into thinking he is actually having a better season than McDavid.

I'll do forwards....a bit unsure about defense beyond the top 5 or so, and no idea for goalies to be honest.

1. McDavid. He's still the best - let's not overcomplicate things.
2. Kucherov. Imo slightly better season than MacK so far, but close. That's why he's #2.
3. MacKinnon. Close to #2, I won't object too much if you want to swap him with Kucherov.
4. Matthews. On pace for one of the greatest goal-scoring seasons ever. Too bad the top 3 are overshadowing him so much this year.
5. Draisaitl. Between Kuch/Mack/Matthews/Drai they've all been top 5 (6 if you include Makar) players in the league for a good ~4 years now. Some years they interchange spots, but no one has surpassed any of them in those 4-5 years, which is extremely impressive. Draisaitl at #5 so far this season, but I could see him go as high as #1 come playoffs, so don't count him out just yet as being behind 2-4 for good.
6. Pastrnak. 2 years in a row is doing fantastic, I think he's earned #6
7. Hughes. His season came off the rails with injuries, but I'm curious to see him bounce back next year. He could be the one to break up the top 5.
8. Panarin. Consistent year over year, strong bounce back this season
9. Kaprizov. Consistent also year over year, even on a weaker Minessota squad where he's heavily relied on
10. Marner. One of the most consistent point getters in the league year over year. Yes I still have him above Nylander.

I feel extremely good about my top 7. After that it's a bit harder, with lots of players close. I'd probably have EP next and Tkachuk belongs also, but his early season struggles kept him off.

Also - both McDavid and Crosby won hart/ross in their second season. I can't wait to see how Bedard does next year. Can he take that same jump and win ross/hart? So Marner, Kaprizov and Panarin over Rantanen... I get that Leaf-fans dont value the playoffs, but some of us do. :D

Think Rantanen is a great player and agree with you about Kaprizov and Marner but come on! I agree that Panarin has to step it up this year in the playoffs but he also doesnt have the benfit of playing with MacKinnon like Rantanen does. Panarin has to be over Rantanen, Panarin plays with Trochek/Lafreniere - Rantanen plays with MacKinnon. Panarin has 6 more points in same amount of games played, is the Rangers highest scorer. The next highest Ranger scorer is his center with 30 less points. Rantanen has 6 less points in the same amount of games played, is his teams 2nd highest scorer. His center leads him in scoring by 26 points. Rantanen does not drive his teams success like Panarin does.

Think Hughes is an unbelievable player but the thing that prevents him from joining the top 5 will be injuries. Don't see him making it a full season without ever missing significant time due to injuries. It has happened to him every season so far and don't think he has the durability to warrant top 5 status, even though he probably has top 5 skill. It is a shame but injuries will always end up holding him back
