How? Some of the players I used for comparison sake had some pretty successful careers and Montreal already has a pretty young team as it is.

For real, if our prospects turn out that good, we are cruising... some people wish we'd have only Crosbys as prospects.

Lehkonen's more like Parise-lite (well, very lite).

Anyway:

DLR
Ghetto
Lehkonen
Hudon
Fucale
McCarron
Pateryn
Dietz
Bennett
Reway

Beaulieu would be #1, Tinordi #2 and Bourni #4 right after DLR, but going by the above lists I assume they're considered "graduated"?

Nygren's never going to be gift-wrapped an NHL spot with us, and seeing as he won't be going back to Hamilton anytime soon, I'm leaving him off entirely.

I actually find those comparisons quite reasonable. Now if only they pan out that way.

What is your top 10?

If Lehkonen had his skill with Gallagher's heart, he'd be a top 10 prospect in the league.

Bealieu and Tinordi are 1 and 2 for me, though they're pretty much NHLers going into next year. Bealieu guaranteed, I think..

De La Rose
Lehkonen
Fucale
Hudon
Ghetto
Tokarski
Reway
Dietz
Bennett
Thrower/Bozon

I should probably put Pateryn in there but I just see such a low ceiling on him, I'd rather rank guys with lower probability but higher potential.

I could see Ghetto/St-Louis and Lehkonen/Lehtinen (somehow...), but man, the other comparisons are insane. [mod]

McCarron/Amonte, Bennett/Souray, Hudon/Linden... :help:

Crazy optimistic, not even a little bit realistic.

McCarron is a 4th liner in the OHL (maybe a 3rd liner on a bad team), hopefully he's not in our top10 at this point.

if those comparables are true we are in trouble...

Strongly disagree. You don't get a 1st liner every draft. We have 1st liners are every position for the future and they are all homegrown. You can't expect Norris trophy winners, vezina finalists and near 40 goal scorers in the pipeline all the time.

In addition, free agency exists for a reason. Eller, Bourque, Gionta, Bournival, Moen, Prust, Briere, Vanek, Parros, etc... are all players(didn't even mention the D!) who were acquired, not drafted by us.

So you support the core, you'd like top end talent but would be hard to complain if we added some solid pieces through the draft.

Keep in mind the top 10 doesn't even include Tinordi and Beaulieu! So much better than it looks.

On what planet is being compared to RJ Umberger a bad thing? He's exactly the type of player any team would want. He has 5 seasons with at least 20 goals in 9 NHL seasons.
Please elaborate on how exactly were in 'trouble'? Adding a Zidlicky to a group involving Subban, Emelin, Gorges, Beaulieu and Tinordi is bad? Adding an RJ Umberger to our top 9 of Eller, Chucky, Gallagher, Patches, Desharnais? Adding a Martin Erat when we don't have the most creative group up front other than Galchenyuk and Eller to a certain extent. Or adding a Bryan Bickell on a team that doesn't have big players other than Eller and Pacioretty.

McCarron is a 4th liner in the OHL (maybe a 3rd liner on a bad team), hopefully he's not in our top10 at this point.
Pretty early to throw in the towel on him. He had 17 pts in his last 23 games. He's definitely shown progression and from what I've been reading, he might not be involved on the score sheet as often as we'd like but he's making things happen out there. Kind of like Bournival. I know this will sound like the ultimate devil's advocate comment but some players play a game that doesn't get them points but they have a say on every goal their team scores. You don't get points for screening the goalie, you don't get points for causing a turnover with your forecheck which leads to an intercepted pass by your teammate, you don't get a point for crashing the net and have it go off the defenseman who's covering you. McCarron doesn't play a game that will lead to him getting 70 points in the OHL. He may be a 3rd liner on the Knights, but he would be a top 6 player on horrible teams. Who do you think deserves the nod over McCarron? Some players might produce more but the things they do at their level won't necesserily translate very well once they go up in competition. Right now Reway is getting away of a lot of things because he has the talent to make up for it but there's a difference between those things in the Q than at the pro level.

Couldn't have said it any better. If half of those prospects live up to the comparisons I made, we'll be a solid team from top to bottom. Some people seem to forget that our core is not only very good but also very young. Patches, Price, Subban, Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Eller, etc.
