According to USCHO, he did not opt in. At #159, who can blame him.

He should be rated higher, played the last third of the season with a injured knee, couldn't really move. Was the #1 pick in the USHL draft.

I would guess this would be the reason he opted out of the draft. It seems to be a smart move and maybe he could jump up in the rankings for next year.

The guy isn't a good skater in the first place. His injury didn't help but his skating is a weak point anyway. He won't be a high pick next year any more than he would have been this year.
