2*2.5 seems fair. Although I'd give him something around 6*4 if he took that. The guy is going to be awesome and brings so much more than just the points.

10M for 3 years? I'd gladly pay him that if we had room. That's really cheap for what he brings...

Wouldn't that deal take him to within a year of UFA? I'd prefer to have at least 2 years left before UFA when signing a RFA unless you ock them up beyond the start of their UFA status. $3.33 million would be reasonable for him, $4.5 million would be an overpay, big difference between those numbers.

Just don't sign the guy if we wants 4+. Playing in Europe automatically means a financial loss compared to playing in the NHL, so Rieder will probably budge sooner or later.

Meh, Just offer him what a mediocre RFA with no track record is worth.
If he doesn't take it, move on
Lots of guys can put up those points with that amount of ice time.

Like the NHL did with St. Louis and Sobotka? The NHL might intervene in the case of a Crosby, Ovechkin or McDavid. Rieder, while a good young player, is dime a dozen.

Reider is definitely not a dime a dozen type player. He is one of the Coyotes fastest skaters if not the fastest. Reider is also one of the best all around players on the team. If you only look at stats then I could see where one might think he is though. He's only 23 and played his first full season this year, almost doubling his point total from last year with little pp minutes. The Coyotes have been a bad puck possession team and they also play in Tippetts defensive system, so it's not easy For our players to get points here.

I don't see Reider developing into a legit 1st line winger, although it's possible. He will most likely top out at a very solid 2way foward that could score 25 goals. His floor is probably a very reliable 3rd line winger that can play in any situation.

How is going from 21 points in 72 games to 37 points in 82 games a huge acheivement? Thats the bare minimum a 23 year old "best all around player" should acheive and I don't buy your argument of tippets D first system with a minus 21 rating.

Time to reunite the Schenns.

BSchenn + Manning for Rieder + Murphy.

Remove Rieder and it's still a helllllllllllll no. Murphy is not going anywhere.

Murphy's learning curve has been astoundingly sharp. Kid barely even had an amateur career due to injuries. Had an extremely abbreviated minor league career (30 something games) and has done the lion's share of his developing in the NHL. Half of it on an NHL first pairing as the perfect compliment to OEL.

Think about that. An extremely inexperienced green horn of a 22 year old who's still an underdeveloped bean-pole was the rock-solid defender that OEL needed on the top pairing so he could roam free and do his thing. That gives him unbelievable upside on top of being extremely valuable right now, as-is.

Sounds like he's going to be expensive to sign then. Since he's already a top pairing dman.

NHL will push ARI and possibly NHLPA to keep this kid in this league and not set an example for other upcoming players like him.. Losing talent to a rival league wouldnt be in NHL's best interest. They might force ARI to trade him to another club.

What? The NHL and/or the NHPA will not get involved.

It's not always about points.

As long as they sort out the foreigner limit, Avangard just got rid of Alexander Popov, which was one of their high paid players. Clearing up cash for Rieder?

  • Johan Larsson-23yrs-142gp-0.26ppg-1yr-$1.00avg

Tobias Rieder-23yrs-154gp-0.38ppg-0yrs-$0.00avg

The averages for that group:

Comp. Avg-23yrs-193gp-0.39ppg-2.5yrs-$2.33avg

That's remarkably close to Rieder. I'd say a fair deal for him, looking at those 11 similar players would be 3yrs, 7mil, 2.33avg.

I have said Rieder is worth between 2.5 - 2.75, but if we sign him for anything less, I would consider it a great signing.

He is the Comp.Avg. almost exactly. If I'm Arizona, I have four RFA deals on the table, with no room for any negotiation of any kind. Pick one:

1yr, 2.00, 2.00avg
2yr, 5.50, 2.25avg
3yr, 7.00, 2.33avg
4yr, 10.0, 2.50avg

If we want to buy back UFA, certainly he has a right to ask for more:

5yr, 14.5m, 2.9avg
6yr, 20.0m, 3.33av

But both of those make me extremely nervous. I'd prefer to bring him right to UFA and not actually buy back any of those years.
