Just talked to Tim Leiweke re: rumours he's leaving MLSE: "It's not true. 100 per cent not true. I'm fully committed to the season at hand."

And there you have it. Just imagine the media if he were to step away now, right before the season starts.
He's gonna leave after this season. If we make the playoffs he'll say his job is done and we're in good hands. If we don't, he'll say we're in good hands. lol

Wouldn't make much since for him to walk out the door 50 days before the season starts.

Elliotte Friedman you idiot.

Why are Leaf fans blaming TL?

The organization has been a mess for decades and he has actually tried to lay the groundwork with Brendan Shanahan being the main hockey guy for years to come

He isn't a general manger, he is an architect

MLSE released a statement denying the rumor. Used the "season at hand" phrase again.

TL isn't leaving for a few more years at least.

You think he is going to leave before the 2016 NBA all-star game in Toronto?
You think he is going to leave before the BMO renovation is complete?
etc...

LOL Leaf fans are so desperate to find a reason to rip TL, its hilarious

this could have a lot to do of knowing toronto will more than likely never have a football team in the NFL + his wife (and he) not liking the weather.

So .......?
okay who do we hire next year? Wayne?

Difference in Philosophy.

Leiweke was about separating from Leafs past while Ownership is about embracing and remembering it particularly as the 100 year centennial approaches.

Legends Row for example is the opposite of what Leiweke was trying to change the current culture about.

If you read the article it doesn't say any of that.

We are not ripping him based on assumptions, we were given a source that he's leaving. The source is one of the best in the business and rarely ever puts stuff out for attention.

Not only that but quite a few other sources have confirmed what Elliott Friedman has said.

Evidence suggest that he's leaving sometime in the near future, likely when either a proper replacement is found or some sort of contract hole allows him to leave.

I think he's going to stay until the Raps' season gets rolling in November. Leafs will be a month in already. At that point, he'll make headlines for a few days, but he'll have a fairly quiet exit.

He obviously doesn't enjoy living here. He's a high-powered executive with tons of money. Why would he live in a city where he doesn't enjoy himself?

Gretzky has been rumoured to be hired by MLSE for close to 5 years running now. I wouldn't be surprised if he was hired to replace Leiweke if/when he leaves. But seems unlikely since the role is a lot more on the business side of things rather then hockey related.

Gretzky? He would have know idea of how to do Leiweke's job. He wouldn't even be considered.

If Shanahan quits, that's a different story.

TL is leaving in the near future for sure (perhaps 2-3 years from now). However, he was here to be the architect of MLSE. Set the foundation for all 3 franchises and work on projects that would make Toronto a more desirable destination (ex. BMO field, All-star game, Bringing in Drake, etc..). He is all about challenges, but then letting others run the show (in terms of actual franchise)

I think its disappointing that people didn't wait until we heard what TL had to say (even if he was leaving). Now we find out that he isn't leaving

I'm thinking he's gone in the next year.

Bruce Arthur also said that Leiweke will be gone shortly. It's the beginning of the end, similar to how Burke completely denied reports that he was leaving Anaheim for Toronto. Guess what happened within a year (heck even months) of those reports?

Also, this is a HUGE reason why he's still staying for this year:

Tim Leiweke signed a two-year non-compete with his previous employer AEG. Once two years are up, he'll go elsewhere, I'm told.

He was hired in April 2013.
