Just talked to Tim Leiweke re: rumours he's leaving MLSE: "It's not true. 100 per cent not true. I'm fully committed to the season at hand."
Maple Leafs: Tim Leiweke says ripping down old photos not disrespectful
http://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs...ipping_down_old_photos_not_disrespectful.html
MLSE released a statement denying the rumor. Used the "season at hand" phrase again.
Difference in Philosophy.
Leiweke was about separating from Leafs past while Ownership is about embracing and remembering it particularly as the 100 year centennial approaches.
Legends Row for example is the opposite of what Leiweke was trying to change the current culture about.
Probably the internal infighting between Bell / Rogers did him in.
TL isn't leaving for a few more years at least.
You think he is going to leave before the 2016 NBA all-star game in Toronto?
You think he is going to leave before the BMO renovation is complete?
etc...
LOL Leaf fans are so desperate to find a reason to rip TL, its hilarious
this could have a lot to do of knowing toronto will more than likely never have a football team in the NFL + his wife (and he) not liking the weather.
So .......?
okay who do we hire next year? Wayne?
Who's Wayne?
he's not leaving. false rumour.

edit: looks like you guys have figured this out already.
Gretzky has been rumoured to be hired by MLSE for close to 5 years running now. I wouldn't be surprised if he was hired to replace Leiweke if/when he leaves. But seems unlikely since the role is a lot more on the business side of things rather then hockey related.
i dont know how to answer this...
wth is a "false rumour"
We are not ripping him based on assumptions, we were given a source that he's leaving. The source is one of the best in the business and rarely ever puts stuff out for attention.
Not only that but quite a few other sources have confirmed what Elliott Friedman has said.
Evidence suggest that he's leaving sometime in the near future, likely when either a proper replacement is found or some sort of contract hole allows him to leave.
TL is leaving in the near future for sure (perhaps 2-3 years from now). However, he was here to be the architect of MLSE. Set the foundation for all 3 franchises and work on projects that would make Toronto a more desirable destination (ex. BMO field, All-star game, Bringing in Drake, etc..). He is all about challenges, but then letting others run the show (in terms of actual franchise)
I think its disappointing that people didn't wait until we heard what TL had to say (even if he was leaving). Now we find out that he isn't leaving

Tim Leiweke signed a two-year non-compete with his previous employer AEG. Once two years are up, he'll go elsewhere, I'm told.
