I was thinking Jamie Macoun

Another one of the Toronto Flames LOL. I thought that as long as there weren't any injury issues with Gleason, he would be a good addition. I liked the way he played with the Canes.

I bet both would clear waivers.

Ranger won't go anywhere because of his requirement to stay in Toronto. He'll be the team's 7th defenceman.

Fraser will probably get picked up for a 4th-6th round pick by a team who has some injuries on the blueline when the deadline rolls around.

That being said, I wonder if Gleason's play has made the Leafs re-evaluate their plans for the bottom 2/3rd of their defence. Initially, the trade just seemed like a way to get slightly more use out of $3.6m+... Gleason has found himself into a regular top 4 role now. Obviously, the Leafs are going to be very hestitant to let Cody Franson go, but do they really see Morgan Rielly and Jake Gardiner as being a pair again next year?

Ranger isn't even a bad #6 at all. His fault was not inconsistent play so much as it was a dreaded turnover or penalty at a bad time usually with 10 mins left in the third. He for whatever reason would pop it over the boards or do something dumb but it was NOTHING compared to the defensive lapses Franson has on a nightly basis.

If it were me, I would trade Franson at the TD for a pick, save the 2 million, and do what the Bolts do and dress 7D. Our 4th line wingers play only 5 min a game anyways.

Top 6
Phan-Gunnar
Gleason-Gards
Reilly-Ranger
Brennan (PP specialist)

Glad Gleason is okay, what a beast. Loved seeing Bernier being the 1st one to help him out and talk to him too, followed by everyone else huddling around. Usually goalies just do their own thing, was nice seeing Bernier do that.

I noticed it as well as soon as they stopped the play. I assume Bernier did that because the guy would literally take a bullet for him.

He's been a surprise for me. His first pass is iffy from his own end, but he's a good skater and is a tough dman to play against

It's too bad he gets paired with a defensive nightmare like Franson.

who here watches Community? Doesn't Gleason remind you of Jeff Winger?

Gleason has been great. We need one more guy like him if Fraser and/or Ranger can't provide that. I think Franson can be replaced with this type of guy.

Well, he has negative value you will never get Gleason for him. Stop dreaming Leaf fan nor Schenn for JVR? A first and a prospect for Kaberle? Lupul will not play 20 games before retiring to career ending injury. Leaf fans' proposals are so bad they should not be allowed.

And you can't trade quantity for quality and get a guy like Phaneuf for the players you don't want anymore.

He didn't practice today. JVR didn't either and Carter left practice with an injury.

Gleason is quite the beast so far. After the revolving door of defensive defensemen who couldn't defend or play hockey the past few years this first month of him in a Leafs uniform has been a pleasant surprise.

It is all an illusion. I was assured by some of the greatest hockey minds that Nonis was an idiot for not buying out JML because he would never be able even give him away. Therefore Gleason must be worth less than nothing and has been deceiving us so far with his great play. What other explanation can there be?

He is being helped by playing with Franson?? :yo: :handclap:
