this signing will be a huge indicator how the secondary pitchers are gonna go in the market this year. a lot of pitchers holding their breath right now

Also yikes, Porcello's contract...I still can't fathom what Boston was thinking.

That Porcello is young and with younger pitchers costing more and more, they wanted to lock him in. Problem is, he isn't in the caliber of 20M per year pitchers. He COULD be, but the time for him to cash in on some of his potential is rapidly closing (if it hasn't already).

It was gamble, pure and simple, and one that has not looked favorable at all.

That's true, though Boston had 5 years of average numbers and no sign of Porcello ever reaching the potential subtext that 20mil brings to the table. If I was the GM and his agent said that Porcello is worth around 20mil, I'd laugh JJ Jameson style and then hang up. I'm not sure if it's a gamble, so much as Boston being desperate in locking him up and forgetting that he is the definition of a replaceable pitcher.

Waste of money for a team that loves to spend it. Their window is arguably over. I don't for see Verlander returning to anything worth noting. Price and Scherzer are long gone.
