Usually it comes down to how many transplants are in the area.

Lots of people in the area grew up as Bruins, Pens, Rangers, Sabres fans so they typically have the heaviest turnout. Next tier would be the Flyers, Blackhawks, Wings, Islanders, Caps. After that it’s pretty even among the rest of the teams except for a handful of obvious small-fanbase clubs like Arizona and Ottawa which bring up the rear.
