Both CBS and NBC will broadcast five Thursday Night Football games, growing the package to 10 broadcast games in 2016 and 2017 from eight in 2014 and 2015. All Thursday Night Football broadcast games will continue to be simulcast on NFL Network. NFL Network will also exclusively televise an eight-game schedule of regular season games comprised of Thursday Night Football, late-season games on Saturday, and additional games to be determined.

Wonder what those additional games would be?

So NBC has Sunday Night and now some of Thursday night football. They must be incredibly happy from a ratings point of view. I haven't read the article, but was Fox even in the running?

I hate the thursday games. If it were up to me, it would be for the season opener and then when the byes start. Rules would be teams can only play on thursday coming out of their bye week. So, if the week 5 Thursday night game was going to be Patriots vs Jets, they both get byes for week 4. This would go for thanksgiving, as well. C*wb*ys, Lions, and the other 4 teams would have their byes the week before thanksgiving.

i personally hate the thursday night games, mainly because my fantasy starters always seem to suck on thursday nights

don't get why they're still going to simulcast the games on NFL network too, seems pointless to me

But the NFL cares so much about player safety :sarcasm:

In what world do fans want teams to play only four days after the last game? How many good players need to miss games solely because they are on Thursday when they would be able to go on Sunday?

The answer to the last question is all of them, apparently.

Complete and total money grab at the expense of the quality of the game.

I'll never understand the people who say they don't like Thursday night football. Players, coaches, etc., sure, but fans? I just don't get it. The more days/night I can watch football the better.

So a bit less CBS/Nantz/Simms/Carey and more NBC/Michaels/Collinsworth? Nice. I think NBC's production is the best.

Not looking forward to more Simms tho.

CBS only has 5 games, so it's actually less of him. NBC also already had Thanksgiving, and I'm assuming opening night wasn't part of the mix.

Expanding the package to 18 games means that NFL Network will broadcast more games not on Thursday. With Christmas on a Sunday, we'll see if they have two games or one, along with showing another game Christmas Eve night.

At least in Canada we don't have to worry what channel the game will be on, as Sportsnet has all the Thursday Night games.

If it means more Al and Chris sign me up, NBC is clearly the best crew imo...including Dan Patrick's squad.

Because the games are generally bad. Not just the teams involved, but the performances as a whole.

I agree. I think going forward, there will be more premium teams playing. I enjoy football on any day or night. The more, the better.

Count me in as another who enjoys having another day of football to look forward to.

However, I think it's best if they set it up so only teams coming off a bye play the Thursday games.

If FOX won the bid, I wonder if they would've used FS1. I also wonder why NBC won't use NBCSN for TNF games while they're satisfied with promoting their channel with a niche sport like hockey.

The NFL would never allow that.
