I think our d being one of the worst in the league is a massive hyperbole….

Reilly, Gio, Brodie and now it seems Lilly are legitimate top 2-4 options. Sandin and Holl are a fine 5 and 6 D. We’re missing a true #1 but otherwise I’d say we’re probably in the top 3rd of the league.

Something is still missing on the back end, we need a RHD that can play big minutes on the PK, a guy like Mayfield IMO. Who's relatively cheap in terms of salary.

Scott Mayfield is such a perfect fit for the Leafs even the AI in NHL 23 is offering him to Toronto for a reasonable low price...

I like Liljegren better than Sandin out there.

Liljegren just seems like a young player with no glaring issues to overcome and can just incrementally get better at everything and become more and more impactful whereas Sandin is smaller, slow on top of other items you'd typically expect from a developing defenseman.
