So what now for Pitts? Thats 2 years in a row.. Malkin and Crosby cant carry this team forever.. Whats the plan?>
They shouldn't have to for 14-15M of the salary cap.
The roster construction (in large part because of Sullivan - those are
his guys) is what has killed this team several seasons over. Bunch of mid and vanilla and running it back the same old way expecting different results.
Those two should be fine pieces to have - not what you depend on every single night. What Sid did this year was amazing - per usual to be honest. But expecting the lot of sidecar players to be the difference was one of the downfalls.
To further clarify:
- Sid/Geno for 150-160 points at 14.8M is incredible value. Everything else they bring makes it even more so. The legacy notwithstanding (though it obviously does). They've always been the narrative so they continue to be - but saying the core is this or that ignores the utter performances they put up.
- Eller is the guy you want at 4C.
- I'd love to shift Geno to wing but not sure it'll ever happen
- The hodgepodge of forwards are not what this group needs or has needed for several seasons. You really should be looking at 3-4 names moving out from the nightly roster
- The defensive corps is going to be interesting. St Ivany was a great add late in the year and Graves may be immovable. But you really need to either move on from Letang, or bring in another Marcus Pettersson.
- Jarry needs to go. Ned plus whomever next year
**** Sullivan has needed to go for 6 years now. Let's hope that day finally comes. ****
