At the same time, look at how awesome Florida's and Edmonton's high draft picks have turned out while being stuck in a losing environment.
Getting slightly better prospects is one thing, but at some point the team needs to learn winning hockey. Unless it's a situation like last year's shootout (where obviously the long term benefit comes in surrendering that extra point) I'll take my chances with a bunch of young guys fighting for each other and winning games against veteran teams over a total tire-fire plus Hanifin.
Edmonton does continue to amaze me as an example of just how much you can continually fail to such an extreme level. Florida has some of their young guns pushing them to the verge of a playoff spot, but but I see what you're saying about having a winning culture. I definitely wouldn't want a total tire fire or a dressing room where losing is looked at as acceptable in any way.
It's just that there's been so many years of seeing the same thing where a winning streak at the end of the year does absolutely nothing for the long run, it in no way translates to success the following season like one might expect. So I have a hard time getting excited about it at this point. I really hope I'm wrong and that it's different this year though, no doubt.
Nedjelkovic is playing quite well again this year, and I hope he ends up a solid NHL goalie in the future. I just think Demko is a much better bet, with the size and style that most teams covet these days.
On another note, Needaspellcheck is one of my favourite player nicknames, so there's that as a positive
