A win on the road on a back to back ( less than 24 hours later, no less ) is pretty impressive. Well done.

We're going to miss jay. The "4th" line has been absolute dynamite for about 20 games now.

Back when everyone was drooling over Mcheichel, I just knew this team would start putting it together and play a bunch of backup goalies and end up picking 5-8. Fun to watch the wins right now, but rinse and repeat.

I wasn't expecting it to happen until March. The fact that it happened earlier is interesting. Though that may just be because they were definitely out of the playoff picture earlier than normal.

BTW, there's nothing better than reading an opposing GDT after a Canes win. "AHL squad" this, and "Blame the refs" that.

For me, it was whenever Jordan came back would be the turning point. We never had a shot at the top two (well, I guess we were in the standings but not for a full season), so basically it's all up to the lottery.

Carolina actually has good young talent in the NHL right now in Faulk, Lindholm, Skinner, Rask, etc. If they happen to put together some wins and those young players are doing good things that contribute to those wins I don't care as much. It'll do a lot for their growth. Someone like Toronto has Morgan Rielly, and maybe Kadri but he's already 24.

Of course I would still prefer they don't drop further than 5, but whatever.

That was a really good game to watch tonight. Thought Hillen had a decent game, and was good to see some decent PP goals.

Nobody has a great shot at winning the lottery. Even Buffalo will have an 80% chance of NOT winning it. And each position we fall will only reduce our chances by 1% or so.

I'd MUCH rather win on the strength of our young depth players than play terrible frustrated hockey with hopes of beating 1:9 odds this summer.

If some of the young guys like Lindholm and Rask take the next step in their development and some other players return to form and start next year like they're playing now (E. Staal, Skinner, Semin), I could see this team stepping up and surprising by competing for a playoff spot next year, think the 2010-11 team. A lot has to go right though.

i just found out that barbecue baked lays have chicken in them

Ricky Bobby, you just blew my mind

Just wondering why Jordan Staal gets no PK minutes? seems everytime i see the stat sheet it says 0.

Both JayMac and Nash are very VERY good PKers in their own right. I think the logic in it is giving him as much of a breather as possible so he can go as hard as possible in a top line role

55% chance someone outside the bottom-3 wins the lottery.

I'd still much rather finish in the 4-5 slot. Not about beating the odds. Hanifin, Marner, and Strome are simply a tier above the next ~4-5 guys. All three will also likely be in the NHL next year which helps the Canes sooner rather than later.

Although I'm not a big believer of confidence, momentum, or culture carryover from one year to the next.

Also I believe the Draft lottery is actually before the Playoffs. Which is inconsequential except for the fact that we don't have to agonize for a couple months.

See, this is where the different levels of optimism come in for Canes' fans. Some people think Faulk, Lindholm, Skinner, Rask, etc. constitute "good" young talent, some think it's "great" young talent, and I, personally feel, it's "average" young talent. Especially if you consider that the Canes have missed the playoffs for six straight seasons.

We just don't have the elite young guys like Forsberg/Josi/Jones that the Predators have, or Barkov/Ekblad/Gudbranson like the Panthers, or Johansen/Murray in Columbus, Duchesne/Landeskog/MacKinnon in Colorado.

Teams that finish near the bottom several years in a row *should* have great young talent. I don't think we have great young talent.

It's not so much the extra couple % at the lottery as it is just wanting to be in the sweepstakes for Hanifin/Strome rather than the guys at 7-10. Nashville lost something like 8 of 10 a couple years ago to jump in front of us right at the end of the year and end up with Seth Jones. Last year a meaningless shootout win vs Philly in the last game of the year put us behind Vancouver, and was the difference between getting Nedjelkovic and having a shot at consensus #1 goalie prospect Thatcher Demko. That's the kind of thing I really don't want to see anymore, the false hope with winning streaks the back end of the year that don't help in the long run.

Other than Nashville those teams won the draft lottery. That helps to get that elite talent. I'd put Lindholm/skinner//Faulk on the same level as FLA's 3.

At the same time, look at how awesome Florida's and Edmonton's high draft picks have turned out while being stuck in a losing environment.

Getting slightly better prospects is one thing, but at some point the team needs to learn winning hockey. Unless it's a situation like last year's shootout (where obviously the long term benefit comes in surrendering that extra point) I'll take my chances with a bunch of young guys fighting for each other and winning games against veteran teams over a total tire-fire plus Hanifin.

needsapellcheck is putting up good numbers on an awful Plymouth team. He'll be the better fit for our team.

Goalies are a bigger crapshoot than players. I wouldn't count on him, especially at his size the way the position has evolved. Could be an exceptional talent, could be terrible, who knows.

Skinner, Lindholm, Murphy.

Rask, Nesty, Jordan.

The talent is there my friend.
