With Eric Gelinas an upcoming RFA again, after last year's negotiation and considering his diminishing ice time and our prospect pool on D, I think he could be dealt for a young forward, similar to the case with Tim Erixon being dealt for Jeremy Morin.

He's not going to be moved for a guy like Evander Kane, lets be real, but it might be possible that he could be traded to say Vancouver for Zack Kassian, who has yet to turn into that Power Forward he was predicted to be. He's 23 and has been in and out of the Canucks lineup. He was a teammate of Adam Henrique's in Windsor for 2 years.

No thanks. I'm not that hungry for toughness or bottom-six players. If we trade him, I would rather include a pick/another player/prospect and try to get someone a bit more impressive than Kassian.

And why do people keep talking about E. Kane? Stop it.

Packaging Gelly + Ryder or Jagr at the deadline could possibly net us something. 2nd rounder + prospect? Though that makes it less likely we trade Zid (unless we're mathematically eliminated and go full on with the kids), so I'd prefer keeping Gel.

This is a heavily unpopular opinion here, but I don't care. **** it.

I'm not against bringing back Jägr. He is on pace for over 50 points on a really BAD offensive team.

Assuming he doesn't fall off between now and the deadline, I wouldn't mind bringing him back next year. As has been said, we need to still ice a team next year. Who will replace Jägr next year? Hopefully our first round pick is ready to come to the NHL next year.

I can foresee some bad things if Jägr isn't around next year. Like Zubrus on the first line? Yeah his 8 points will be a lot more useful than Jägr next year.

This team does need to get younger, but Jägr isn't the problem.

It's the Ryder's, Zubrus's, Havlat's, Salvador's, and Zidlicky's (though he has been good for us offensively) that need to go.

Zubrus is immovable at this point. I'm afraid if no Jägr next year, we'll get whatever is left of the remains of Zubrus eating up a lot more time than he should.

There won't be more than one forward prospect not in our system already, that makes our team next year. I'm not counting Boucher or Matteau either. Boucher would replace Ryder and Matteau would replace Zubrus or Ruutu ideally.

The only way we get guys who are already ready to contribute at the NHL level, is if we get some decent players in trades at the deadline for our junk.

If Jägr could bring back something worthwhile though, I'm perfectly fine with trading him.

6 goals 15 points through 26 games for E. Kane. 19 last season. History of injuries, and all the off ice stuff.

I do wonder how he is valued around the league.

I'm not against bringing Jagr back either. Unless he says he does not want back next year, I would not trade him for a 3rd rounder, especially since it would be a late 3rd rnder.

If and only if Jagr nets the Devils a HIGH 2nd-Rounder(or....ideally, a 1st), do I even entertain the notion of trading him.

But as I stated earlier(and Eddy added after), I don't think Lou will make any deals due to loyalty and lack of a market.

Ryder and his 5 goals are going to be lucky to get a 5th rounder and I still might be generous there. The guy has 11 goals in his last 82 games played and the only reason he does is he scored 5 goals in 6 games midway through last year. 4th liners picked up on waivers can do better than that and make less than $3.5M (see Ryan Carter).
Zidlicky might get you a second. Jagr too.

I'd be disappointed if that's all we got for Zids.

Agreed. I would want a 2nd to go along with it...and still don't really think that is enough.

They would need to up the prospect level in my opinion.

The only snag with Zidlicky is he doesn have a No Trade Clause....So it might limit our options

Ya I am not convinced he is just going to waive it. There is a lot of assumptions he will, but all signs say he enjoys it here in New Jersey.

Honestly I imagine he would rather stay here another year then go somewhere else. Same case with Jagr too.

Does Jagr have a NTC?

Mayb Zidlicky with salary retained for Pulkinnen could work.

Detroit traded Jarnkrok for Legwand last year and Detroit has Tatar, Nyquist, Mantha, Larkin, Sheahan, Jurco, and Glendening so it's not like they are starving for young forwards and they need a RHD.

Jagr could go to Anaheim, Montreal, or Pittsburgh and some other teams.

I don't know why people don't think we can get value for these guys just look at deadline deals in the past.

I definitely think we can get value. I just wouldn't count on getting a Pulkinnen for Zidlicky. That's not to say it couldn't happen....I'm sure that if someone suggested Erat for Forsberg on these forums they would've been ripped to no end for it.

I just would keep my expectations low and hope to be pleasantly surprised. None of us knows how teams value players, their own and other teams'.

If a team is desperate for a veteran RHD puck mover, they'll pay for Zidlicky. Same goes for a team that thinks Jagr will add to their top6 and increase their chances.

I agree with you, most fans have amnesia about the deadline deals that happen where it seems the buyer substantially overpays...or they act as if it will never happen again.

On Nastasiuk, the more I read about him the more I like. He's still developing, has great NHL size and athleticism, and is looking like a middle6 pro.
