Steve Vai and not Fripp?

@_@

KC is done. I don't see him ever doing a tour either. Maybe a one off show. I think he's almost 80.

Very excited for this, I like the lineup choices to fill-in for Fripp and Bruford as well.

I know Steve Vai from his time in Zappa's band. I'm really interested to hear how he interprets Fripp's parts. He and Fripp did tour/perform a number of years back. And KC toured with Tool too.

Suburbia
I usually hear people talk about 80s Crim as their worst period (maybe because they were supposed to be a different side-project altogether at first), but it's probably my preferred incarnation, thematically.

It's insanely different enough, and its true that they intended it to be a whole other band. I think in the end calling the albums King Crimson was likely just a fold to the label.

Are they actually done? I thought they were still touring as that 20 piece 3 drummer monster act.

Couldn't find an official quote but heard from the following a few years ago:

Sadly, they will not be touring as King Crimson anymore. They played their last gig in Japan in 2021. Robert Fripp stated that three of the members are in their mid seventies and practising before a tour takes a lot of time and effort. The individuals may do their own gigs or with other artists.

Got my seat for October. Going solo to this one because no one I know appreciates early 80s Crimson...luddites.

Not sure how lame going to a show by yourself is but eff it, I'm forty-some damn years old and already pretty lame.

I went to see KC in Philly in 2017? solo. I had a good time.

Just saw her/him/they last Friday. Good show. Also dug Women and the previous Cindy Lee records. Kinda werid to see them get so much press, but I guess "Public Strain" was a pretty popular record.
i think more a case of how strong whats tonight to eternity was creating a lot of momentum for this one, which honestly just stands on its own as exceptional?
