Steen seems like the best compliment to Lethera and Tarasenko. He brings that highly intelligent defensive play the line needs to balance their offensive tendencies. Tarasenko has been cheating in the defensive zone so he can quickly spring loose on breakouts and catch the D off guard. The defensive responsibility of Steen allows that type of play. Schwartz can bring that too but Steen is better at it and more conservative on his release during the breakout.
Steen also brings that shoot first mentality, whereas Schwartz looks to make plays. Since Lethera is almost purely a puck distributor, I would rather have two shooters on that line. Steen brings that element.
Having Schwartz on another line also plays out as a team strength. He is a tremendous catalyst for offense. Whether it's winning board battles, dishing to open players or navigating through traffic, he facilitates offense while also being defensively sound. That is important now that we are a one line offensive team due to illness and injury. However, I think it will be in our best interest moving forward as well. Having Schwartz on another top line with Stastny when he gets back will make defending our team even more challenging. Stastny could benefit from Schwartz's distributing skills. Stastny is known for his distributing but the guy can score and Schwartz can help in that area. Conversely the same is true of Schwartz and the impact Stastny can have on him.
