Why is everyone just focusing on the C in the C/LW I posted? Tlusty > Kunitz as 3rd line LW/2nd line LW if Plotnikov doesn't work out.

I agree with you, too. If we could get Tlusty on the cheap (under 3mil), we would be set. All depends on the price though.

Unlike Plotnikov, Tlusty has already proven to not only be a capable NHLer, but a decent top 6er who can play with elite talent when called upon. He could be a great third wheel for Crosby/Hornqvist or for Malkin/Kessel, if those are indeed the pairs. He would let plotnikov slide in the bottom 6 to get used to the NHL game, and the two could compete for the spot, which would be great. He's also not out of place in the bottom 6, should one of Plotnikov/Bennett exceed expectations and steal a top 6 role at some point.

On the Martin article: class. That's all that needs to be said.

On kessels comments: he never asked for a trade and I think his comments very much reflect that. I don't think he's disappointed other than the fact he was traded, which a lot of players feel. I don't think in anyway it's a knock against the Pens. As mentioned in the previous thread its a life changing event for these guys as they have to pick up and move. It's not easy for anyone. I believe it was mentioned in some article he is an introvert, and as one myself something like this would be hard to digest, even if it was good. I don't think there's any reason to be concerned.

Martin is a class act and every time I read what someone who has worked closely with Sid has to say about him, I'm reminded of how lucky we are. Tying that together with the Kessel quotes, I think being on a team with Sid is the best thing that could ever happen to him. Not just for stats or anything on ice related, but having Sid there to deflect attention and handle the media will allow Phil to relax and just do his thing.

I would love to get Tlusty at this point, but Semin wouldn't be terrible either if we could snag him at 2-2.5 for just a year or two.
On Tlusty, I really don't know much about him. What is he good at?

On Semin, if we're going to take a risk and trust that someone can get healthy enough to help, I say we just make it Bennett.

Carolina isn't a team who will want to throw away money. They would rather pay him to play than buy him out. I don't take that as a good sign on their expectations of his recovery.

Not only that, but his best attribute has always been as a shooter on the PP. Well, we have Kessel and Perron for the exact same position.

I just don't have faith that he'll help us. I think there's a very good chance that Kunitz, Dupuis, Bennett and Plotnikov are all better hockey players than Semin is at this point.

This deserves a spot in the new thread.
http://www.theplayerstribune.com/paul-martin-pittsburgh-penguins-letter/

Best of luck Paul. I'm sorry we weren't in a position to bring him back. We're probably going to hear spumoni more than we like this year.

I love the player's tribune. Awesome website.

Sad we couldn't bring him back...but dang he was starting to decline. $4.25 is a great cap hit for him and I would have loved to pay it...but the 4yrs is just...ugh. Deal breaker. 1yr, 2yr - yes. More than that...nah.

Glad he found a home though. Sans that 2nd year, he was a rock for the defense.

Man, I love Martin. I know there a lot of yinzers out there that didn't because "he is as soft as charmin". We might end up finding out that the team's gonna really miss his play. Martin just ate up all kinds of minutes. He played so many solid minutes for us when Letang and Maatta were out. Hopefully, some of the young guys are ready to step up.

Tlusty is not even Kunitz's equal producing let alone a better 3rd liner.

He may have better wheels, but if all things are equal you shouldn't want either on this team, but Kunitz produces. Tlusty goes months without a goal healthy.

Madden said his sources told him Dupuis is in the mix for top six duty.

I'm stoked.

http://dkonpittsburghsports.com/2015/07/02/kessel-im-just-so-excited-man-i-really-am/

• On the trade: “Oh, I’m just so excited, man. I really am. For it to be Pittsburgh … with everything that franchise has meant and two of the best players in the world there … I never would have thought I’d have the chance to play with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, to play on a team like the Penguins. It’s just amazing. I’m so pumped.”

• On a preference between playing alongside Crosby or Malkin: “Ha! I don’t have one. Obviously, they’re both unbelievable hockey players, so I’m just excited to get a chance to play with them, whether that’s on a line or the power play or whatever.”

As much as I like the kids coming up, there's just no way we won't miss Martin a lot for at least a year.
