The Markov Thread Part II - Deal or No Deal edition

If Bergevin offered Markov only a one-year contract, the message is prety clear.

Markov asking for three years is very reasonable.

Bergevin is probably receiving offers from many teams at this moment.

Is Markov's value higher or lower after the Olympics he had ?

Bergevin and Markov are just negociating. Bergevin is trying to get a 2 years deal. Afterall he did sign Brière for 2 years too this summer.

If Markov is ready to sign a two year deal I keep him for sure. If he want 3 or more I trade him for a top6 forward or top prospect.

habs need the right pieces coming back...a team with depth, and in contention, not many of them, because it would be silly for an eighth place team to grab him.

not sure who are the best trading partners.

The best days for Markov are sadly behind him. Age is a factor.

Love his play, love his compete level. With that said, the Habs need to be looking for a trading partner to address our offensive needs.

As always, depends on the return
If its a 1st rounder and a top-flight prospect do it
BUT It must be a top flight prospect

Deal for a 1st and great prospect. Don't deal if not and sign him 2 years, 5 M$ Salary cap, 6M$ first year, 4M$ 2nd year. Do NOT lose him for nothing. That's the MAIN point.

I will be INCREDIBLY and IMMENSELY surprised if Bergevin deals him. Clearly not his type.

Wilson and a 2nd, with a conditional 2nd would be music to my ears.

Gonna need that music to drown out how much the defense sucks without Markov.

True. Just a top flight prospect would do it though (depending on which one).

Bergevin offered him 1 year at 6 mil, going to 2 years would have a lower, not higher AAV.

2 years at 5.75 mil or 5.5 mil.

Maybe in the past, but the cap went up. We don't want to lowball Markov either.

5.5 at 4 years
5.75 at 3 years
6.25 at 2 years

Personally I'd gamble and sign him for 4 years at a discount price.

We'll see.

He held his ground with Clowe and Vinny and Subban... IF it's one year he's offering maybe he'll hold his ground again.

Markov wants to stay and we likely won't get anything more than a late first and decent prospect so might as well just keep him.

Give him 2 years at $5.5 - 6 mill a year and give both Tinordi and Beaulieu a chance to play next year.

Markov - Subban
Tinordi - Gorges
Emelin - Beaulieu

Deals as in "trades" him. I will be incredibly surprised if Bergevin trades Markov.
