Actually, if you look back five years, what you'll find is a very strong correlation between those rankings and actual results. So much so that it would be quite justified to argue that prospects that make the THN top 75 list is the only group that has a very significant likelihood of becoming good NHL players. Only a small fraction of the top 10 prospects who make the team list but not the top 75 makes it in the NHL, while a considerable majority of the top 75 group does so (and an overwhelming majority of the top 50). Considered as a prediction, it has very, very good results.

And please. For the umpteenth time, the top 75 is compiled from roughly 20 NHL scouts input. It is hence by definition an expression of views in the NHL scouting community. If the result seems like a joke to you, the problem is probably on your side.

Everyone read this post. I have looked back at their rankings for fantasy league purposes and have found that their rankings are actually an excellent predictor of a player's chances in the NHL.

According to: http://www.thehockeynews.com/articl...diner-no-longer-of-first-round-pedigree.html#

The top five players listed in alphabetical order are Gudbranson, Johansen, Kuznetsov, Schenn, and Tarasenko.

I got my money on Schenn at #1.

Seems the obvious likelihood yes. Also, it's hard to think of any real obvious alternative candidates for the top 5, even though I was instinctively surprised by Johansen and Gudbranson making that high. I guess that's a measure of how many good young players have graduated to the NHL this year, plus Filatov and Hodgson falling.

I'm interested to see how far they've fallen on the list considering they were both ranked #1 and #2 respectively just 2 years ago in Future Watch '09.

Hmmm..just checked site and see Lidstrom on new cover....man this happens way too much. So sick of calling all the time to get issues never mailed to me.

Yeah I will probably get that one tomorrow, they usually arrive on Wednesdays. Wasn't expecting one this week though because last issue said there wouldn't be a new one until March 7th but the Lidstrom one is March 2nd.
